Hello everyone, and I hope I've come to the right place for some friendly advice.

I'm off touring the alps in Europe later in the year and, although I have a digital compact camera, this really doesn't "do distance well". I'm thinking its about time to change my 30 year old OM10 for a modern digital SLR, but I've no idea what to buy. I'm also a bit concerned that the OM10 isn't worth much as a trade-in and that my lens collection for this will be wasted. A few questions for anyone that knows:

Could my OM10 lenses be used with a modern Olympus digital SLR?

If so, would this be a compromise?

I really haven't used the OM too much over the years as, although this is a light SLR, I find even this cumbersome to carry around. Which are the lightest digital SLRs about these days?

My uses for an SLR will be to take high quality portrait shots, distance shots, and objects at speed(the compact digital - OM Mju - I have is exceptionally useless at the latter as the shutter delay is about 1/2 second!). Also, I would like an SLR that uses Compact Flash (as a "nice to have" but only because my TV has a Compact Flash slot).

Any answers, recommendations?

Thanks

Hi Mikdys

Welcome to TP.

I have no idea about your Olympus as I use Canon, started with a 350D and 400D and progressed to 50D - I think the 400 is more likely to suit you as the more recent 450 and 500 both (I think) use SD cards rather than CR and it is comparitively light depending of course on which lenses you use on it.

There is a section on choosing and buying your first digital SLR here which might be of assistance to you
