David here. Was just trying to recall when I took my first photograph. Probably around 50 years ago with my mother's folding Six-20 Kodak Junior, which i still have. I started developing and printing my own B&W about 45 years ago with help from older brothers. Our enlarger at that time was made from an old folding camera, bits of a bedside table, a length of gas pipe for the column and large tin cans to hold the light bulb. We mixed our own developers and fixers and used mostly out of date paper from a professional photographer friend of the family. The darkroom was in the attic and keeping solutions warm in winter and cool in summer was an ongoing struggle.
