Hi all,

I've just started posting to this forum. I'm Dan, a press photographer by training and will now be taking a new direction, teaching photography at Hull College. I'm just assisting at first but will also be remodelling some of the courses, helping to create new ones and taking evening classes too.

My question to the forum is this:

If you could change one thing about photography training, what would you do?

Cheers!

Dan

Welcome Dan,

the main thing about training courses is the cost. I appreciate that time is money and training needs rewarding, but so many outlets have charges that simply results in many photographers not attending. Even school and college courses for the public are expensive in some areas and the teaching level in those is not particularly high.

Keep cost reasonable and the classes will be filled by eager Togs wanting more.

Thanks Malcolm, I'll feed back all responses to the boss so all suggestions welcome.

Re: the standard, I've lost count of the number of times students have come on work ex at my paper and are still holding their camera like a tourist. Most are grateful for the nudge in the right direction!

All courses for 'newbies' should incorporate how to hold the camera and press (squeze) the shutter button ........................ essential.

This is a good one. I actually went into a bit of a rant about students not holding cameras correctly in my interview. It angers me!
