Hi there all,

I have just registered so thought I'd start my induction on this forum with a question. I had some minor usage of a manual SLR some years back and sort of forgot about it as Digital cameras came onto the scene. For some time now I have been uming and aaring about getting a DSLR and trying to take my interest a little further this time round. I know they are quite expensive but as I didn't want to have to be updating the camera in a year or 2 again, I opted to get the best I could without going OTT. I went for the Canon D40 and have had a play with it. I'm only a beginner so I kknow I need to do a lot more playing.

My question is I plan to take my little beast camera with me on my holls and was wondering what the consensus was on the Velbon CX540 Tripod? I want something relatively light and bearing in mind I'm no professional, didn't want to spend lots.

Any Ideas. Also can anyone recommend a good beginners DSLR book I can get. I heard there was supposed to be a Canon D40???

Hello :)

If you have used film SLR before then DSLR should be easy - no film to mess up while you learn! Stay away from the auto modes as much as you can as you will learn faster with Av and M. read the forum and ask questions* and you will pick it all up in no time.

* in the right section as not many will see your tripod question in here ;)

Oh and you don't need a DSLR book - get a photography one like Brian Petersons Understanding Exposure.
