This years license appears to allow pictures to be used on 'twitter/social networks'. Whether or not that covers forums and whether by the photographer or license holder only I'm not sure.

Where's Kipax when you need him :D

I didn't realise that DataCo covered you taking photos of your photo in a newspaper

Every day is a school day

But congrats on your National Coverage Alex :D Bet you are very chuffed

There are basically two issues:

DataCo's 'up their own backsides' approach and also the copyright of the paper in question if you publish too much of the page (it has to be an extract).

Having said that, I was lead to believe that AI had hauled the FA(DataCo) into court for restrictive practice by preventing agencies/licencees from showing their own published work (ie tearsheets).

Your definitaly not allowed to post press cuttings because dataco told me.. however everyone does and gets away wiht it..

the licence holder only.. is allowed to post pictures on his own website now... but they have to be 72dpi.. and have a watermark that goes through an important part such as face (it actualy says this in the licence)

yes your allowed to post to facebook etc.. so many pics while the match is on.. however i cant fathom out in what for this has to be.. as part of news i guess? (I am a whimp when it comes to my own licence so i wont be testing the facebook thing out)

the new rules are for lince holders.. not for photogrpahers working under someone elses licence..

to be honest.. the agreement isnt the easiest thing to read ...

Thanks Tony

Good to know the updated rules for the staff room to be aware of

Still doesn't apply to me then as I'm under the club's licence though - poo

as far as forums such as this go.. i dont think theres any change of rules :(

i am NOT an expert.. everyhting i say should be taken as my view on the subject.. I ahve a dataco agreement in front of me.. but as its all a bit.. well you know? then it can be open to interpretation..

But it helps us when someone might challenge our removal of a picture with "oh you are allowed to post them on social networks etc now

But you and Gary tend to have the best grip on it for us :)

I wonder what it would mean if somebody went and bought a copy of the paper and posted the relevant page if they weren't the photographer or the license holder? Just thinking!
If its not allowed, its not allowed, only difference i would imagine is that it would be more difficult to enforce if it were just some Tom, Dick or Harry posting press cuttings rather than an accredited photographer himself.

But I guess it would have to be under some general copyright legislation as Tom, Dick or Harry haven't signed a DataCo agreement or a contract with the license holder.

You dont need to sign anything to be bound by its terms and conditions, knowledge of those terms is enough, just because when you enter Tesco a member of staff hasn't specifically told you not to shoplift doesn't mean it's OK to do so.

But in some respect youre right, ignorance is bliss. :D

I have seen a lot of press cuttings published.. well known licence holders have loads on there website.. it seems to me that its one of them silly rules they dont bother enforcing..

dataco deffo told me not allowed.. but as the licence changes every season then this may have been changed, relaxed or ignored..

Like I say.. I worked too hard for mine to risk it so I dont post my cuttings..
