Heightened Airport Security

Hard to imagine anyone not being affected by it.

No hand luggage! the thought of checking in the camera and laptop for the baggage monkeys to throw around......

Well, looks like it's confirmed to affect me.

Ryanair website said:
Ryanair on instruction from the UK Government, wish to advise passengers that no items of hand baggage can be carried on board any aircraft departing any UK Airport. This instruction applies to all airlines operating from UK airports.

Passengers are not permitted to carry the following onboard:

Handbaggage, including ladies handbags, electrial or battery powered items including laptops, mobile phones, ipods, electrial key fobs.

The only items permitted to be carried onboard are the following items:

Travel Documents (passport), Keys (but no electrical key fobs), baby food, milk, sanitary items and prescribed medicines (except in liquid form unless verified as authentic) essential for the duration of the flight.

Ryanair are fully complying with this Government instruction but do expect delays and disruptions to occur. We recommend that all passengers allow extra time to get to the airport and to clear security.

Ryanair sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Further updates will be posted on this website at 08:30hrs

I think I might want to leave my 350D at home. Don't really want it in the hold in a backpack. :shake:

What a bummer. So you can smuggle explosives in your suitcase, just not in your hand luggage :cuckoo:
It all seems a little OTT to me, but sadly, it's becoming rather the norm in this day & age.
I'm going on holiday next month, and if this is still the case, I'll be leaving my camera stuff behind and taking a point n shoot with me instead. How embarrassing to have to carry 'feminine items' in a clear plastic bag for all to see

Yup spreading all over the news now. This doesn't bode well.

4 Airports identified as sources. Flights into Heathrow stopped, with a possible request for flights leaving to be grounded too.

I don't know, but the cynic in me has his suspicious head on today.
What with the government getting a bad press lately over the thingy park two (the supposed terrorists, one of whom was shot), and maybe we were in danger of realising all this anti-terror "control"/restrictions were a little too big brother?

And hey presto, major terrorist plot foiled, and oh well, looks like the government were right all along?
Seems a bit too convenient for me, and I'm normally the one who decries any sort of conspiracy theory.

Can I take a book?

Don't worry, according to adverts us chaps will just think they're either sweets or wraps of sugar....

I read that some items can be carried in a clear plastic bag......does that include duty free stuff? Goodness me, the chaos at all those airports.....so much disruption, confusion and anger no doubt. I really feel for people going on holiday etc today.....

Oh bloody hell :(

Supposed to be going amsterdam next wednesday, and taking the camera was a main part of it. There's no chance in hell im letting them put my camera in the hold, it'll come out in 1000 tiny peices! :(

:nono: It sounds like a giant pain in Le derrière!
I can't imagine going anywhere without my camera or mac, or magazines or wedding planning book, or mobile or make-up, or even a book! I think I would be in more risk of EXPLODING than any bomb, just as well i dont have to travel any time soon!:suspect:

I hope people travelling on Ryanair wont be charged extra for hand bagage to be put into the hold, seeing as they seem to be charging £5 per bag!
If you are travelling with them it might be worth checking out.

:suspect:

Yup, I am flying Ryanair tomorrow morning. :bonk: I hope they have sense enough not to charge for check-in luggage in this circumstance! :nono:

I was soooooo looking forward to this weekend away to Berlin. :bang:

I have a friend who works for Norwegian, she say ALL planes are banned from UK airspace today, at least!

she says everyone is really peed off!

I'm flying up to Scotland next week with the missus and 3 kids. Normally we drive but as it's only an hour on the plane I thought it'd be fun and less stressful. :bang:

At work today (Eurostar), it's an absolute nightmare - all the trains are fully booked with extra passengers due to the airport problems.

I'm going to Norway next Friday for a boat race and was going to take my gear but like most, hate the thought of 5k's worth of camera gear in the hold...It'll stay at home me thinks!

Carl.

I've just booked return tickets to amsterdam for next wednesday... I'm in for a hell of a week so a couple of hours delay won't bother me too much.

if your not allowed to take hand luggage whats the official standpoint on shoe bombs as they aint strictly hand luggage....

and after this bad taste joke i leave the room complete with coat..

I'll be in Oslo for the next few weeks working and was hoping to take my camera, but I'm not going to put it in the hold, it won't arrive in one piece.

Well, good luck to me. I'm going to bed now. Will be waking up at 2:15am, take a shower and go out to catch my 6:20am flight.

If you don't hear from me for the next few days, it's all good.

Otherwise, you'll be sick and tired of my rant this whole weekend.

:D Come on Airport Security! Bring it ON!

So what are the chances of me bringing my My Lowepro Mini trekkar onboard with me to Thailand with all my camera gear, two weeks tomorrow? Might have to leave it all home now, cos i'm just not to sure how well it will be "looked after" in this "hand luggage". Thats kinda ruffled my feathers! :( Part of the holiday plan is to be dedicated to photography! Great! :(

Ed :)

I suppose you could get teh chunnel to France and fly from there instead :D

You know it's a good job these terrorists aren't as clever as me eh :D

Somehow I don't think my folks will buy that one tbh :( The tickets are crazy enough priced as they are..... let alone cancellation fee!

Yeah, Thailand for me is like 11hrs or so! :( Its just crazy but we can't do anything, just follow the rules! But I can't see how they can ban peoples hand luggage forever? But for the mean timeits best this way imo but very frustrating for Photographers amongst other.

Thanks people. I'm off.

Good luck to Kinobe!

Two weeks today I'll be at Heathrow, so before that I will find out if I'm able to carry onboard my camera as its defintely not going in as luggage. I mean if they broke Dads lighting setup in a suitcase, then tbh I'm no way packing my Dslr. I could ge tone of those Lowepro Outback cases, but not for £259 :(

I found last time when I went out there, that things were quite pricey? give or take a few pounds. Suppose it depends where you go, but we went to Central (department store) amongst others.

Have a good tiem Kamion! :)

Ed :)
