HEEELLLLPPPPP Raw Files been Deleted

My Folder full of CR2 Raw files are all gone and they not in the trash bin

What recovery software is there for this please hopefully freeeee
 
Are you sure they have gone???

This happened to me but it turned out that the Folder was hidden...change drive options to "show all" folders, subfolders etc.

Why did they go? Did you delete by accident? If they just disappeared there may be an easier way to find them. Need more info.

already done that :( the folder is no longer there at all

I have a feeling the little devil deleted the folder but it not in the thrash bin... The folder that gone missing is on the external HD
 
Have you tried a full search for .NEF or whatever extension files they are?

As far as I'm aware, recovery software can only recover files that are deleted AFTER the software is installed and configured.

well I have downloaded a software called Stellar Data Recovery and it finding the photos that have gone missing but £70 to activate to recover the images

Some truth in that. If the files were on the operating system drive/partition then installing the software could overwrite the parts of the disk occupied by some images.
As the folder is on an external disk some good luck has returned in that installing the software on the OS drive won't risk losing the deleted file information.

That's a positive sign. Look out for free or cheaper recovery software, but make sure that you do nothing to the drive with the files on it, until you've got the software!
 
Yup trying to find a cheaper or Free software that can do this for me.... But the software got to able to recover CR2 files
 
Try Recuva http://www.piriform.com/recuva

Not used it myself, but there should be a free way of getting them back.

By the way, do as little to the disk as possible. Once deleted, files start to get overwritten.

Could the file have been dropped inside another file by accident. I do it all the time :bonk:
 
Files don't just disappear, could it have been something to do with the Lightroom testing you were doing?
 
I had a similar issue a couple of months back. I inadvertently blindly pressed some sort of combination of keys and lost ALL my photos. Mild to extensive panic ensued as they hadn't ended up in the recycle bin. I eventually (well 10 minutes later) found I'd taken the share privileges off the parent folder so I couldn't see them. Phew.

Not tried any of the recovery software/services as can't help other than to advise to do a search on your drive/s for *.nef (or equivalent).
 
Do you have time machine turned on ? you may find they are all backed up ! if not check out the app store there is a host of recovery apps !
