Hi, I want to get a small studio set up at home and have no idea about lighting :shrug: I have a flashgun and trigger and have been given a Hedler 300w light, does this need to be directed at an umbrella as it's very bright?

It's an HMI light, not the sort of thing normally used in a home studio tbh.

It isn't really about brightness, what an umbrella will do is to make the source of the light effectively larger, and therefore softer.
