Hey All

Last night my little girl Heather, who signed up on here yesterday, asked me to take her out with a camera after school today so she could take some pictures. So, I ensured the E-400 battery was charged, the CF card was formatted and ready to go... and at 4:15 we ventured out into the coldest evening of the year so far - to a little village/town just 1 mile form where I live - a place called Caerleon.

Before we left, I explained the zoom, auto-focus, composition and stance to her - remember, she's just 10 yrs old... and we went out.

We spent a wonderful 2 hours walking around Caerleon, through the churchyard, the lanes and gardens... and when we got back I struck up a free Zenfolio account for her, registered the name www.reflectingheather.com, and helped her to import, save, and export to this new trial Zenfolio gallery.

All these images were taken by Heather with only a Dads encouragement - no help in composition or of what to take pics of... I am mightily impressed, and as you'd expect... a very proud Dad.

Just had a qiuick flick through and there are some pretty amazing images! even more so concidering her age!

lets hope she keeps up the good work

Wave Bye bye to that 400 John, you just lost it!! :D

Great set of shots for any beginner, even better for a 10 yr old. We should start a kids photography forum, my 13yr old daughter is asking about going out with the cameras over the half term too.

Just looked at these via the Hello thread
As I said in that, excellent and you must be chuffed

Have not figured out how to do the quote thingy

:agree:

I have a 13 year old daughter who has asked the same!

And perhaps if we have a meet we could maybe bring the kids along?
(Well those that have them.)

:agree:
Some great shots there!

I expecially like the one of the old church warden in the blue fleece, giving the thumbs up!

Spence
Oi you... she doesn't need any encouragement to call her Dad old...!!! :D

I think so too LadyLens, she's already asked when can we go out next. I love it... :) (she's my 'gal, and I lurve her :))

Great idea about a kids photography forum, maybe I'll contact Marcel and see what he thinks.

Thaks birdy... Heather is up late this evening and has only just gone to bed, I showed her your post in there and she was really excited to read that. Thanks for encouraging her...:)

She's got some good pics on there bless 'er! :)
Thanks dellipher, sort of 'point and shoot' mode with a DSLR, but she did good yeah

Thanks all... what a wonderful experience this was for me I have to admit. Heather was so excited when she came out of school, the first thing she asked was... "are we still going out dad...?" bless her. Might be the start of something I guess... but I reckon she'll be an Oly girl... :)

Sorry Spence... I missed this post as I was posting mine. I will drop Marcel a PM... let's see if this is worth doing.

Some really good shots there, great start for a 10yo. :)

Slightly OT, but, is there any chance Dellipher can change her Avatar Image? Its too damn distracting, im happily reading the thread, spot that image and then im transfixed on those eyes, making me forget what id just read in the thread...

:agree:

That is the best avatar on this site!

Thanks Ian, lovely words greatly appreciated. I know the first thing Heather is going to do when she gets up in the morning (and how sad is this...) is to visit tp and see who has posted in her intro thread and also in here.

She's already decided that it's a 'lake' next, as she wants to photograph the swans!!!!

Just dont read her Profile, it says shes single...

I dont think she needs 2 stalkers, just the 1 is more than enough for anybody...

If you want to carry on this ....please take it to OT....otherwise lets get back to heathers photos....I think we're taking it away from MusicMan to show what a talented daughter he has...
I am grateful for the compliments, but this isnt the place to do it :)

Looking forward to seeing her photos, I'm sure Heather will do very well!:)

Yours might be okay too..:D;)

Some very good shots Heather
Bob:clap::clap:

You must be very proud MM, Heather has certainly got an eye for a photograph. There are some very good images on there for a first timer, even more so when you consider she is only 10.

 Well done Heather, let's see some more!

Heather is going to be well pleased when she reads this thread later this morning. Thanks all so very much for your words of encouragement for her...

Wow, some fine shots there, great job MM and Heather! Heather may actually have an advantage only being 10, as her line of sight will be lower, and she'll start to see shots that 'grown-ups' (in every sense) miss.

Well Done Heather, A Fine Tog In The Making.

A damn good start....

In fact, Heather's just won this weeks prize...a Velbon tripod (not too heavy)

PM me her address and I'll get it in the post.

Bob

WOW Bob, that's very nice of you... I shall get Heather to comment in here when she gets back from rugby...!!

PM en route:)

Unbelievable encouragement from everyone on this superb site. Thanks to you all for your kind words regarding Heathers foray into photography. As you know, she's only 10, and is involved in loads of activities; from TaeKwondo and Rugby, through to choir and rollerblades. Have to say though, that this is the first 'interest' that she seems to be totally engrossed in, she's asking all sorts of questions about where we could go, what she could take pictures of, and even how to use her laptop to add a watermark to her images!!!

I have installed the 30-day trial version of Lightroom onto her laptop for her and she has started playing with this as well.

So, once again - thanks to all of you for your kind words and wonderful encouragement - you are making a little girl very, very happy indeed.

Me thinks she might want an E-3 for Christmas... ;)
