I can't locate the thread Dale put up last year..'Heat" It looks like we're revisiting this.. They're forecasting temperatures reaching 40ºC within 10 yeras.

Today at 0830 it was 20ºC under the patio brolly. It's now at 36.5ºC.Just short of 100F in old money. I'm not sure whether today is set to be the hottest or Saturday..it's here for several days and,no doubt, won't be the last considering we're just starting summer. We're getting a lot of birds coming to the pond/cascades to drink.

One of my boys just asked where the coolers were and I said in the loft and if you want them you can go and get them.

He was up and down in about 2 minutes flat, its like a sauna

I imagine this young lady will be happy that the temperature's soaring...

Can't be good sitting out in it like that, even with sun screen on..The heat is pretty fierce.

We're expecting 27 degrees tomorrow here, for Ireland that's considered a heatwave! The highest ever temp recorded here was 33.3°C and that was back in the 1800's, highest in the 21st century was 32.3°C that was in 2006

High temps in Ireland can get uncomfortable quick, because of the high humidity. I've been to Turkey, Spain, Portugal where it hit between 30-40 while we were there, and honestly it felt nicer than 22-25 here. Humidity is a killer at time, where the air almost feels damp

I'm guessing you're in the South Keith? I'm in the North, close to the coast in Co Down. We are in the low 20's at present, likely staying oaround that for a couple ofd days then dropping a bit, we are protected from the higher temps by the coastal effect and coastal breezes coming off the sea. It is a bit humid though despite that. I don't like the humidity, that was the killer living in Hong Kong as a kid, in summer the temperatures were only upto around 34 but humidity was in the 90s all the time, often also at night. Dad couldn't afford to keep the aircons running at night, so we just had a ceiling fan moving the warm air around! Listening to the cockroaches scuttling around on the wooden floors. Glad we don't have that here!

Atm I'm not too far below you, Co. Meath, originally from further down south [Carlow]

I find the humidity lately horrible, today hit 23-4 in some areas and it felt nice at times, but sweaty and icky indoors [my work place has zero Air con which doesn't help. it's pretty much open all windows and turn up the fans!] I hear reports that tomorrow could see up to 27 but not specifically where in the country

Humidity was up to 50%, we've had a lot worse, like 80+

Here in London it has been far too hot for me for a few days.

I was making a meal(no cooking) about 6pm and in the kitchen, despite having as much shade as possible it was 25C. About the same time in the shade in the garden it was 28C and about an hour ago it was 22C.

22C is the maximum I'd want in the hottest part of the day.

I think you'll get 32ºC, if not more, on Saturday.I see the NE,of all places, will see very high temperatures, too.

Unfortunately, I think you are correct John.

As with the last couple of days it will be walk with the dog about 5:30 - 6:00am and then try to keep the heat out of the house as much as possible.

Better than strong winds & pi55ing down with rain!!
Sure we'll be getting some of that before long. That's what I like about the Irish climate, we get variety! I'm lucky being coastal though, it's always warmer and more humid inland like Keith says. We had 22 yesterday and it was about 21 inside the house. I work at home and my office is on the shadier side of the house, facing north-east so it only gets the sun early before it's too hot.

I'd be guessing but yesterday was probably the hottest in my part of Wales this year. Baking hot. I thought it was hot when I walked to the local bakery early. Thought it was "very" hot when I was mowing the front lawn later (not a great idea) spent the rest of the day with a grim headache sitting in the shade in the back garden, with a party pack of pain killers..

It has hit 31.4 today in North East, still 29.5 now as I write this. Tomorrow is supposed to be a bit hotter!

By 11 am it was 27C and after lunch it was too hot and humid to even sit in the shade in the the back garden, even with a little wind (felt like a hairdryer).

It was 40 degrees this afternoon in the Charente department of France. Too hot to sit out and fish even in the shade. We had over 40C a few years ago when we were on holiday in the motorhome. That equated to over 60C inside the van in the evening. When I arrived here in February 2012 it was -25C overnight for a fortnight. At midday in the full sun it was -8C and there was around 45cm of snow.

Nice to have some real summer, although there are concerns about water shortages. Must be tough if you live in a 1960s-90s thin-walled house with little insulation and no way to keep the heat out.

Yes..it was. The BBC Met man said so.

No..you're right. I don't think mowing the lawn in 30ºC plus was a good idea. These days, I just do the right thing when it's hot like this and get under the patio brolly, a glass or two of mhy favourite Liptons peach iced tea and listen to LBC or read a paper. It's taken a few years and more than a few words from my wife to see sense but I've got there..but only the last two years when we started to get this heat regularly.

The NE. I love thunderstorms and you are in for quite a few tomorrow. We're travelling up that way..Bridlington... on Sunday. Just my luck..Lol.

Odd, "er indoors" gives me two sweaters and a beany hat... ;)

31ºC here today. Not going to be a very good night for sleep.

Down in Rye for a couple of days. Was supposed to be 3 or 4 degrees less that home.
My god it was so hot. Couldn’t even bring myself to get the camera out of the car today

It's been a bit of a relief after France last week, not so much in absolute terms, but the sun has felt much less fierce when I've been outside. Walked for nearly 30min yesterday lunch time, and although I was hot, it didn't feel too bad to my surprise.

On the whole it is the humidity that drags me down more than the absolute heat.

Having said that, high 20's into the 30's is tough when combined with the humidity:(

The humidity has been around 60% and anything above that is classed as 'uncomfortable'.

Could be worse,though.

"El Granado in Andalucía saw a temperature of 46C on Saturday, while 46.6C was recorded in the town of Mora in central Portugal on Sunday. Many countries have emergency medical services on standby and have warned people to stay inside as much as possible.

"Nearly 200 schools across France have been closed or partially closed as a result of the heatwave, which has gripped parts of Europe for more than a week now but is expected to peak mid-week"

Re France..
"Meteo France forecast very high minimums ranging from 20-24°C or slightly higher in some localised areas, and maximums reaching 36 to 40°C with some peaks at 41°C".

Temps in France have been crazy - last week we saw 44.5 on the car gauge and someone I know from the Dordogne saw 47. Spain has seen these kind of temps in the past in some parts, but it's become more widespread. Ditto Greece where high 40s were not so unusual.

Hot when stopped but the new mesh trousers work well on the move.

Today, the thermometer under the patio table brolly got to 35ºC.It was 2.45pm. I gave the roof of the garden swing-housing a coat of preservation paint at 8.30am. The humidity now..9.27pm is 50%. It feels more.

Out in the sun today, was like standing next to a blast furnace, I'd imagine. Worst of it is that peak temperature for East Wales and the Midlands. which covers Gloucestershire, is Saturday and they've forecast 34ºC and in some places 35ºC and they are usually a couple of degrees below what it actually gets to so, Saturday isn't going to be the day to be out in the sun.

SW Scotland

25 deg forecast mid-day

Humidity: 97%.....what does this mean - why is it so HIGH...?

Quite cool,then :D

At 5.30pm today, in the shade in the back garden, it was 35ºC. In the sun...45ºC.

It's 9.23pm and I've just cleared the green frothy scummy blanket weed off the surface of the pond. About six rock doves were sitting on the house roof waiting for me finish. Within minutes of me finishing they flew down to the shallow-end and walked in taking big gulps of water.

We're forecast to get 33ºC tomorrow. The highest in our region. That's a shade temperature, too.I won't be doing any outside jobs, that's for sure.

27°C forecast. Good practise for next week!

It reached 35ºC in the shade here. This morning, at 2.35am there was a very loud, close, crack of thunder which woke us up. Just that one. Nothing prior to it and nothing after it.
There's a couple more days of this then cooler, then heating up again but not to 34ºC. About 27ºC

Dont know the temp, but really hot here in south Wales today, still warm now 22.30
