I really hope im not breaking any forum rules by posting this, but its for charity so......

There is a very large mansion and grounds that this charity are trying to purchase to turn into a rehabilitation centre, and drop-in centre for all veterans and serving troops that have suffered in past and present wars. They need £8 million to buy and restore the buildings and land. They need all the help they can get, any donations (money, raffle/auction prizes or voluntary help) will be very gratefully received!

Also, if the charity isnt successful in buying the property and surrounding acreage, it will be sold to the other interested party- a development firm who will knock it all down and build a housing estate! I have personally visited the grounds today (only looked at the outside of the building as it is unsafe) and this would be a dying shame to be turned into cheap housing!

Any help of any kind would be absolutely super!

For any of you who are in this area, and surrounding areas; they are putting on "A night with the stars" once a month at different rugby/social clubs, consisting of a minimum of 10 tribute acts all of which are amazing! If anyone wants details of these nights i can supply them

Good post Kirsty and a worthwhile cause.

agree with Dougie,a very worhtwhile cause.... fingers crossed they manage to achieve their goal.

Sounds a good'un, but I'm reminded of a local hospital, which was gifted to the town by an old Colonel whose only son was killed in WWI, to be a memorial to all the locals who fell. It had been his home, a big place in large grounds with mature trees. Then the NHS took control and recently decided to sell it to pay for an extension to another hospital. The site was bought for redevelopment by the richest man in the county. Similarly, a large house left to the town for use as an old people's home was sold off by the county council.

A very worthwhile cause and quite local to me.
I might just pass those links around in work to raise a bit of awareness (if that's OK)
thats great! the more awareness the better! £8mill is gonna be hard to raise

photon, its going to be run by the charity, nhs will be supplying some medical staff, but wont have ownership, so no worries about them c***ing it up

latest update!

the total raised so far is £17,000

unfortunately i have just found out that they have only 3 months to raise the £200,000 needed to secure it!!!!!! the profile of this desperately needs raising. some media (local newspapers and radio stations) seem uninterested in the story unless it has a twist they think their readers/listeners will be interested in! they neglect to see that it will help troops and veterans across wales and england, they just see it as helping the immediate local area (llandeilo)

if anyone has any connections with any media at all (local newspapers, local radio, local tv, national papers, national tv, national radio) could you please please, contact them and give them the details, and hopefully some will help in some way.

as said if £200,000 isnt raised in the next 3 months the property will be auctioned to the highest bidder, and sadly that will not be the charity
