Heads up-YongNuo YN-560 III Flashgun reduced at Amazon

At £40.99 they are delivered from China, £43.87 gets you them fulfilled by Amazon for quicker delivery.

I would have to advise some caution on these flashes. I've got 4x560 mk4's and now have 2x560 mk3's. Two of my YN-560Mk4's have broken after about 3 months of use. Both only fire full power. Doing research online this seems to be a common problem across both the mk3 & Mk4.

At this point Yongnuo "support" are useless. I have to return them at my expense AND pay for return postage meaning I might as well throw them away. The big problem however is if like me you're shooting weddings with them, you have that OHMYGOD moment when your shots are being ruined by the full power dump until you realise what's the matter and swap the flash out.

I'm planning to switch brands as soon as funds allow. I'd like something more reliable. When they work though they're great.

The reality is that ANYTHING you buy from the internet, other than from an established bricks and mortor Company in Europe, is bought without any form of warranty, with no support of any kind. As "gadgeteer" points out above, even when there is a warranty, it's useless.
The fact of the matter though is that Chinese companies don't understand the concept of customer service, their attitude is that if something breaks you just throw it away and get a new one, so unless you have exactly the same attitude, it's risky.

Personally, I think that the likes of Canon and Nikon rip us off with their very high prices - but you do get what you pay for, at least their products aren't made down to a price and they are designed to last a while.

For the price of them I wouldn't mind treating them as disposable items if they lasted a year. But I had two fail on me within a month of each other so that's £100 wasted basically.

I bought an N-Flash a couple of years ago from eBay that died after three months and the eBay seller in HK was less than interested. N-flash weren't either. That was £300 wasted.

And to think I started photography as I thought it was a cheap hobby.....all i need is a camera! :p:D

40 quid as opposed to 500 is a disposable item to my mind... point taken about odd failures on a paying job though!
Anyway, I thought this might help members looking to dip their toes in OCF.

I have been using the mk iv version which is basically the same, an amazing flash systems especially when used of camera and controlled with the 560tx.

Gave up on yongnuo a while back in favour of canon. Worked out that at the rate you go through them, iit will cost more in the the long run to go with cheap Chinese ones than to go with an original canon 580ex (which goes on for years).

There are also some pretty badly though out features on yongnuo flashes. The buttons are easy to accidentally knock, and they automatically power off after a few minutes which is unworkable iif you have to set up the flash in advance and then wait (eg like a conference or similar).

I have not had the power of issues on my 560 iv when controlled by the 560tx, cannot comment on the buttons compared to others makes.

Have to disagree with people, had two 560III's for over a year now and they're perfect, granted I only use them as support lights to larger ones but still, can't fault them at all for the price.

I have a couple of 560III's - one of which I've been using for a good while now and would agree with @Digitalize. For the money, they're great value.

People tend to post more often about problems rather than no problems, which tends to skew your perceptions of the actual fail rate.
But, it's annoying when something fails.

I've had my Yong Nuo for about two years and never had a problem.

I really like my YN flashes and triggers. But the battery doors really are a weak point that should have been sorted.

I've got (and regularly use) three 560 III's - had them a while (one for 2 years, the others for 1 year). Can't fault them. They're as cheap as chips and if one were to develop a fault, I'd happily replace it with another YN speedlight.

Interesting point you make about the battery doors Phil, the 560 III has a metal hinge whereas my sb800 has a very poor plastic clip system so personally I think The Yongnuo door is better.

It's not the hinge that's the weak point, it's the clip grooves in the door, they disintegrate.

I have 2 560iii, and 1 560iv, oh and a 3rd 560iii thats in bits after a fall, (spare parts) and never had any bother use them with a 560TX, maybe not so well built as Nikon's but a lot more affordable.

I love the YN flashes. Currently using 2x 600's and 2x 565's. Also got 2x 560 III's for sale. Never had a problem with any of them. Except one of the 600's which was dropped and the IR cover on the front smashed. One email to Yongnuo through Ebay and they've sent me a new cover. My only peeve with the 600's is if you turn the beep off for use at weddings, etc. Once it goes into sleep mode, it resets all of your custom settings. (Bit of a pain!)

Ahh OK Phil I get you, I still stand by what I said about the design of the SB800 door being nothing special though.

MOD EDIT: removed - please don't attempt to trade outside the classifieds section.

Can you wake them up from the TX controller on camera or not?. I still fire mine using a 622 N trigger and have had the same issue as you. If you can wake them up from the command unit I will invest in one asap.

Just be sure if you buy from Amazon and you want the flash and Diffuser buy seperate.
Price..JPG = 44.54 unless I missed something;)

Which flashes are you asking about? The 565's with the 622 tx or the 600's and the 600tx?

Much appreciated, thank you.
The 565 and 568 can both be woken by a 622, a half shutter press does the job.

I also use a 560 on a 622 and that can't be woken (if it can I haven't found how).

@Swissglover What Phil said

Thanks Phil, that is very useful as currently I fire mine using a 622N so will be after a 622 tx controller given how cheap they are.
