I have been asked by my work if I could do the head shots which are used in everyone's profile on the company site. The issue just now is that up until now everyone was asked to add their own image but some were very very poor snap shots from phone cams etc. T he place I work has a media dept but its mostly video guys. They have a few backgrounds including green screens etc but only continuos lighting.

I plan on taking my kit along with octabox, umbrellas etc. What I would like to know is for positioning lighting to show the person off well but not to be flat looking. The company are keen on a modern look, I was thinking either black or white. This isn't a paid project or anything however they are keen to see the images before deciding if I can be let lose on the company mag which I would like to get my foot in the door with. I only have 2 lights however I was thinking I could use the continuos lighting on a white background( I would prefer to use black though so will push for that) if that's the look they want to go with. Any thoughts on lighting for company type of shots?

There is information in the ether to help you with this --- PhotoTraining4You (PT4U) --- Scott Kelby, and there are also some ancient illustrated lighting guides --- I believe there is one downloadable on The Flash Centre site ?

These only provide safe starting points --- ultimately you will find that by learning the basics you can the break the rules to create your own style. Then you can sell you rather than me2 lighting :)

I think im unable to break any rules with this shoot. The guidelines i have so far are that its head and shoulders, its needs to be modern looking, cleary show the persons face, can be smiling but not laughing, images to be shot in a similar style( i take this to include background and lighting).
