HDR

Not all to my liking but some great shots amongst them ... the moving water and the biker I am assuming are tone-mapping rather than true HDR ... or is there even more that I don't know?

Stunning photography there via 'HDR'. I know NOTHING about it but wonder how it's created? Seems a lot of the photo's are shot using wide angle lens for better effect, right?

Beautiful - wOOw!!

Now, were do I start.......?

As you say some interesting and some..... I have never done HDR but thought some members that do might like to take a look

Some good, some not so good. When done well, it can be stunning, but maybe only 10% of HDR images are, to my eyes, done well. I think that's because most people apply tone mapping then stop there, rather than continue to refine the image afterwards in photoshop.

One of the better HDR practitioners is Trey Ratcliff.

Some are beautiful but some are horrendous. I really am not sure about HDR, I think it can really suit some images, but most of the time they just end up looking like computer generations to me.

some of these are really nice but some are over cooked

HDR is definitely an area where masters can get amazing results, but happy amateurs can just as easily conjure stomach-churning results... what worries me is the quantity of shots in the later category that still end up on Flickr or whatever - surely they can tell how bad it is when they decide to upload it??

That particular collection has a few stunners, but also a lot of dross to my mind. It seems sometimes people get so wrapped up in the technical side of shooting HDR that they forget to actually shoot a well-composed, interesting scene to begin with.

I'm a musician, and for me the overdone HDR is analogous to the over-long widdly guitar solo favoured by metal guitarists - sure, there's some technical skill involved that is appreciable on some level, but if it doesn't say anything that I don't see the point.

I love HDR when it's done well, can't wait to get my hands on a D90 to have a go at it myself. But some of it seems pointless and just 'because I can'. HDR has its place, but so does taking a great shot - well composed, great lighting and capturing the mood and moment.
