This is more for the moderator of this very friendly forum, and for any comments on weather the below is a valued point.

As the HDR seems to be more generally used now, whether we like it or not it is part of our processing software. Would it be beneficial to have a dedicated HDR on the list under Photo Critique and Sharing.
This way those that don't really like HDR can stay clear & keep to there interested parts of the forum.

I for one would like to see it...

Totally disagree, not going to start a pro/anti HDR debate but it gets used on so many different subjects that the sub forum would be a mismatch of everything from landscapes to portraits. Keep the pictures where they belong with the subject matter . I think people are getting abit carried away with the view that HDR is the be all and end all of Photography it's just a post processing technique afterall.

Anyone want to borrow this? :D:D:D

BTW - I quite like HDR, however it can often be fun to stir the brown stuff ;)

I think the point of a HDR section as proposed by Rocket would be less about the subject of the photo and more about the sucess/failure of the use of HDR.

I think it's a good idea....

I don't offten look at the Motorsport & Transport section because it's not my bag......

Anyone want to borrow this? :D:D:D

I think is a mad idea ...should we also have a forum for soft filters, ND grads, long exposures, polarizers, flash and rear sync shots.

Its just a photographic technique to me ... similar I'm musing, to musics 'pop' genre. lol. .... we should be concentrating on the photograph, not preceding that aim with how well it was processed, or not.

My vote would be  too.

If you have a separate HDR section then along comes a mono section, a long exposure section, a digital art section, a girls section, a boys section, a fancy section, a c section etc:cuckoo:.
I'm a fan of post production techniques and sytles but the existing sections are just dandio, They already cover the fundamental categories without over complicating IMHO.

Interesting replies, although some do seem to get a little over board with comments.
Just looking for a simple Yes or No...

My sincerest apologies if you were referring to my reply Rocket, I think I've had one beer too many here and got carried away, no offense intended. :bonk:

i think its a good idea as it would stop the HDR bickering, if you dont like HDR, dont go into that section ...

Its just a processing technique.. if you have a seperate place for it you may as well have a place for sharpening, levels etc etc...
I see your point, but people make too big a deal of it.
In my opinion the titles should be.. for example.. "mountains"... instead of "mountains in HDR!!"
I am guilty of doing that myself until recently.

Couldn't agree with you more on the titles Trev, I've been guilty of that too and it really doesn't help. Never again nope nope nope.:nono:

we had a text speak ban, how about a HDR bickering ban ... just turn all bickering into *'s ....

No need to apologize Tomas, free speech and all that. I was hoping the subject would not get out of hand. I have seen this kinda of thing get out of control in other forums, last thing i want to do is cause unease in such a good conducted forum.
Be interesting to see which way this goes but i think the Negs are winning so far..

Not for me either. The very fact that it's being discussed and not for the first time, shows that we are in danger of it becoming a defining characteristic of images. No box of tricks or single darkroom technique should ever be granted licence to exist over and above the image it works on.

This is photography. Vision first, technique second. :D

(if we use our HDR on the quiet... and dont announce it... they will grew to learn to like it....:lol:)

I am not opposed to hdr.. just the banging on about it lol.

"Mountains.... SHARPENED!!"

I think it's a good question which would probably have been asked at some point anyway mate. I think you done the right thing:thumbs:

On initial thought, yes, its a fantastic idea!
All the HDR trolls can steer well clear of the dedicated area and it will stop all the "I hate HDR" arguments cropping up every 2 days.
But, in execution, its a horrific idea.
The forum categories should be kept as they are - subject matter.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it's a no :)
HDR, as has been stated is just a processing method, much the same as black and white, or cross processing, etc etc, and the subforums are for subject matter over technique :)

Thanks anyway!

So there we have , its official. No for an HDR forum. Thanks to all for your replies and for the reply from moderator. Worth raising the question me thinks.:woot:

Now i am going off to watch some HDTV

Nice Idea, i cant stand HDR anyway to avoid it would be great.
You not going to be able to avoid it, its here to stay, but it may have been easier for some one like yourself to keep clear, if it had been in a dedicated place.HDR has its place, just as any other software.
Some like it some don't. Some hate digital some like film, that's how it is.
