Hi all.
Just joined last night and hopefully I can pick your brains with a pretty self explanatory question.

Now I've only just got into photography having bought an s5600, so I'm still learning all about f-stops, aperture and DOP...and doing a bad job at it I might add.

I recently saw some photo's that are referred to as HDR and they totally blew me away.
Is it possible to do on my camera?
I know it's something to do with AEB and whilst my camera seems to be able to take photo's at 1EV step,(sounds like I know what I'm talking about, right?) I have no idea how to go about it.

I know that you can sort of create a HDR from 1 RAW file, but the 3 jpeg version seems to have better results.

If anyone else out there has got the same camera and would be willing to help out a total noob via step by step special needs instructions, I would be most grateful.

Hopefully it's ok to post this in this part of the forum.

Yes its possible.

I'm just flicking through the manual so i give you the right info. BRB

Page 65 of the manual explains how to get the camera to take bracketed exposure shot at different settings.
You just then import the pictures to your HDR program of choice.

Thanks for that.
I've set it up on M to take 3 shots but they all come out exactly the same without any real difference in exposure.

Like I said, I'm new to this, so any advice on what I'm possibly doing wrong would be appreciated.

set it to 1ev

press menu - <up>

Works perfectly on mine.

Cheers Brummie.
I've done that and it's now set on+-1

Now if I press the +- button on the top, do I need to change that about?

If I press the button which has the symbol for the camera on it (the one next to the EV meter) do I set that to the middle picture?

Sorry for sounding like such a noob, but unfortunately, I am.

Thanks Trev, but I'm trying to figure out the 3 shot method.

Forget the +- button.
Use the right d-pad button (has flash symbol on it) to move in the bracket menu (while holding down the cam pic button)
Set it to middle symbol between the two camera symbols.

Got it and tested it.
Cheers Brummie.
You're a star.

I set the cam ona tripod and let it take 3 pictures.
1 over, 1 under and 1 just right.
I set it on M, set the exposure bar to the middle and it worked a treat.

Although it only does 1 EV step, do you think the HDR results can be impressive on the 5600?

I saw some on VanillaDays that totally blew me away.

You should get some decent results with it. Practice and you could always manually over and under expose when you more confident.

BTW On your next reply i expect to see a great HDR shot :)

The image in this thread was done with a compensation of only plus and minus 1.
It is a great example of getting it right and not overdoing it:)

Brummie, as soon as the rain lets up, I'll be out there with a particular shot of Docklands in mind!

Ugs. That's a stunning picture. Although it doesn't look as extreme and fantasy art as some of the HDR I've seen, it looks a lot more real and clean.

I'm very impressed as this is the first time I've ever really thought of putting my camera to more use than just 'fire & forget'.

Thanks a lot for all the help and advice here. I was half expecting to get flamed for being such a noob!

Glad i could help. Saving the flaming up for a better opertunity ;)

The s5600 is a great cam and i'm sure you'll get some good results. look forward to seeing your piccies.

Just one last thing if I may Brummie, but the s5600 doesn't shoot continous RAW does it.
Be ideal if it did, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't.
