Would anyone be able to explain to me how to get the kind of images done over at the following website:

http://ccgi.swgnd.plus.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=1033

I really like the look of the pictures as they look CGI and this would really suit a project I want to do.

Ive read a few tutorials on creating HDR images, its rather simple, but doesnt come any where close to what Urbex is getting.

thanks for the link
explained a lot.

gonna have a go at this one day....

Dunno why you would want to follow that style. Extremely Overcooked and very ugly pictures.

What complete twoddle!

Everything in photography is down to tastes, styles, interpretation and competency of implementation. There are many styles of HDR - I wouldn't call this ugly or overcooked:

There are no absolutes in photography and its likely that you have seen some amazing HDR's without even knowing it.

why are so many people so quick on here to knock peoples take on images, at the end of the day we take pictures mostly for our own enjoyment and if it is needed purely for someone else.

Would we all say that Monet is rubbish just because it does not interest us?

I know its a long stretch comparing HDR work to Monet but you get the comparison

Marcel he called you rubbish, BAN HIM :D

I pretty much agree. I don't think of these as photographs or the person taking them as a photographer. But each to their own.

Thats a pretty cold thing to say, I mean, what if someone converts all their photos to Black and White? Thats more radical than HDR in many senses.

There are some fantastic HDR images produced by fantastic photographers...

Gary.

How sad this thread makes me :'(

Lots of closed minded people here.

Besides this is going off topic...

Foz:
Many people like and admire HDR photographs, some don't. Most decent HDR's are produced using photomatix you can download a trial from there - the retail price is $99 but they do a 60% discount if you are a student (or know someone with a .edu / .ac.* email address)

Good luck with your photography Foz

Not at all. Black and white is in a totally different league from HDR. A B/W photo still looks like a photo, HDR never do. Well none on these forums anyway.

Serious? What about the one up above - the mountain?

It can be done better too - that was just a 5 minute stab at it as quick preview of some holiday snaps.

Its certainly true that there are plenty of crap HDR's around but you can say that about any form of photography. :bang:

Wonder how good the regexp is on that pattern matcher ;)

*whistle* Time to create alex@zomg.bunnies.ac.mydomain.com methinks!

PS: That mountain shot is pretty breathtaking.

Those are my Pictures, what a very narrow minded opinion but thanks for the kind words ;)

As you say each to their own but no need to slate..

Cheers

ok i have kept my mouth shut all evening but i feel i have to say something!

The op was asking for advice on how to achieve the HDR effect and what it was about. As with all areas of photography some will like styles that others don't. So if you not going to offer the help the op wanted why turn the thread into a debate about HDR? Why even click on the tread if you don't like HDR?? Its not helpful and for one i thought this forum was about helping each other, if you want to debate the pros and cons of HDR start a new thread!

ok rant over :)

well said, lets not have another HDR is good / bad thread please.......:bang:

It's been said above but Pete Carr's guide and photomatix are the tools for the job imho.

To paraphrase a certain well known song, But I could have told you, Garrie, that this site was never meant for one as beautiful as you."

It's fine to say you don't like a certain style of photography, but to dismiss anyone's work as "not photographs" or that person as "not a photographer" is not just narrow minded but, quite frankly, stupid in the extreme.

Incidentally, I've just checked ThisPhotoGuy's gallery to see what type of pictures he takes.......and there aren't any!:shrug::suspect::lol:

I like Garrie heavy baked HDR. Also looks like at photo of Hillpark, local to Hillpark?

@ ThisPhotoGuy... most of time when you do Urbex you will only have camera & travel light. Locations can be dangerous even when you have tripod its not always possible to set tripod in location you would like.

the style is getting more & more popular along with urbex. I do Urbex along with the crap overbaked photos but then again i am a crap photographer lol

Oh I see, he doesn't maintain an on site Gallery, you have to visit his own site. :bonk:

Well, I've looked and sadly I can't find much to critisise (he's pretty good) - although one of Dunfirmline Abbey may have benefited from a little HDR...........;)

it's late, I'm tired, I'm grumpy. Keep comments relevant to the original request for advice on how to achieve the effect please :)
