Ok ive just got photoshop cs4 extended...

First ive tried to do a HDR ( FAKE ) image and i encountered a problem

Once ive got 3 images -1, 0, +1 and do:

>File
>Automate
>Merge HDR

and select the images it goes on to do them but stops before opening the next window saying programme not responsive...ive had it working once but the last 5 times its failed!! :(

Do i need to download anything to do these HDRs or is there something simple im just not getting right?

Im using this and some others to get used to it

You might not have allocated enough memory to photoshop to carry out the task.
Look in the preferences tab under edit and check performance.

Also which version of windows are you using? If it's Windows 7 photoshop isn't as good as it could be using this operating system even though Adobe say it is.

Are your pictures jpg's

sounds like a memory issue, try restarting your computer just before you do it and make sure you have no other programmes running in the background... I also use CS4 and have a fairly new , midrange, laptop. I did a merge to HDR the other day with 6 different exposures and it took over 40 minutes before the automation process was finished... i have no Idea whether or not that is a long time as i have only recetly started using hdr but it seemed like forever!

Thats way too long, even on an old (8 year old) dell that my sons using for his college stuff 3 raw shots only take about 30- 40 seconds or so, and thats only got 1 gig of ram.
Download photomatix trial, it's miles better than photoshop for HDR anyway.

Cheers for the tip, I'll be sure to check it out, can I ask Is it CS4 your son's dell is running?

CS3 used to run smooth as you like on my machine but CS4 seems to be much more memory hungry I'm seriously considering downgrading...
