HDR Help please

I'm just experimenting with HDR for the first time...the ones I've tried so far are coming out..ermm I don't know....'looking a bit like paintings rather than images' is the best way i can describe it. Any suggestions please ?

So far I'm just using the basic tone mapping setting and tweaking a little....should I be using another setting ?

As I say I'm a complete novice at this HDR thing, so any help would be great

PM can produce very subtle results, the trick is to find settings that work for your images.
My starting point settings are around. (These work for most of my images but it will vary depending on how they are taken etc.
strength 50-60%
colour sat 45%
luminosity +5
light smoothing maximum
tweek the white and black points
