I recently purchased a two metre HDMI extension lead 1.3. When I fitted it between my PC and monitor I had the following message come up: "Input not supported by monitor display. Change monitor resolution...."

Initially I thought the cable was duff but I'm now thinking that the "1.3" refers to a series of HDMI cable and that I need a newer uprated series in order to maintain the 1920 x 1080 display on my monitor.

Can someone enlighten me?

Thanks,
AL

Just checked another cable - 10 metres long! - also version 1.3 and it works fine, so I'm bemused

sounds like a dodgy cable. I'm using a ebay special 5m long cable. Full HD to Samsung tv no problem

Thanks both. It was a cheap cable from Amazon. Will see if I can find something better.

I've had all sorts of problems with cables recently. Some monitors don't play nice with HDMI cables for some reason. I've just bought a monitor stand. In putting that up, the monitor connected via HDMI that has been working fine, started cycling through power save mode. That is, it would go into power save, then come out, then go back in ad infinitum. NOTHING had changed - same cable, same graphics card, same port. I ended up getting it back by completely power cycling the monitor (i.e. remove ALL power for a minute). It's not a cheap monitor either (Dell U2410).

Probably not a lot of help, but just saying HDMI can sometimes make you wonder why things work in the way they do...

Thank you. I'm having a replacement sent out, so keeping my fingers crossed.
