HDEW - Printed Manuals

Hi,

I'm racking my brains with frustration at the moment.

In October I bought a Canon 650D from HDEW Cameras.

I have to admit I've not played with it much other than to test that it was in working order. I kept everything (I thought) in the box, other than the camera body itself which is in my camera bag.

Packing for a holiday and I start looking for the manual. Expecting it to be in the box, but it isn't. The unused CDs, leads, warranty paperwork, and packaging bags are all in there but no manual.

So my frustration - did it come with a manual, which I've had a quick read and put down somewhere in the house, or did it not come with a manual.

I honestly can't remember. It is frustrating not knowing how hard to search because I could be looking for something that never existed.

So my question to you guys - Is it likely that the camera didn't come with a printed manual - is that something that HDEW do?

Cheers,

Nigel

The answer is yes. It may have been taken out by HDEW, as it was possibly printed in Chines.

Yes I've read stuff like that, mostly about DigitalRev but wondered whether it applied to HDEW.

I've downloaded the correct manuals so no show-stopper.

It just really frustrating that my aging brain can't remember.

I find it odd that I didn't check and remark on it's absence when the I opened the box but perhaps I've grown used to this age of electronic manuals on CDs.

On the other hand it isn't in any of the most likely places it would be if I had taken it out to read.

Not sure whether to turn the house upside down looking for it or just accept that I never had it in the first place.

I'll give HDEW a ring later today to see what they say.

Cheers,

Nigel

Hi Nigel, welcome to the forum. I've bought a 5D2 and 24-105 f4L and a 5D3 body only from Hdew and both of those came with both an English and another language, might be Japanese or Spanish but I can't remember. They were both a proper printed official Canon manual and I always keep mine either in my bag or by my bed if I'm reading through it, I often have a browse through all the manuals just in case I've forgotten anything.

Likewise, with all the new bodies I've bought, 2 from Panamoz and 2 from ebay, they have all come with a proper manual. The only manual I've bought is for a second hand 7D and I got the updated version with the firmware updates included in it.

Have a look here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-C...966?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2321950e1e if you can't find yours. I've just had a look and the 650D isn't available where I bought my 7D manual yet. Good hunting.

TBH I wouldn't want a paper manual. Even when supplied I don't bother to open them.

It is far easier (IMHO) to download an electronic copy which can be quickly searched from a computer and downloaded to a smartphone for quick and painless access in the field without adding needless bulk and weight.

I have spoken to HDEW. They said that it should have come with a manual.

In most cases it will be the proper manual but occasionally it will be a print of the PDF download.

They said that they would send a manual out to me - pretty impressive given I bought the camera two months ago - I expected them to say that I should have reported it immediately.

At home I would agree with you and I have downloaded to my iPad for reference at the hotel. But I don't have a SmartPhone so a printed copy would be useful when out and about.

I bought a 7d off them which came with a printed manual ,which looked naf so asked them for a proper one ,no problem in the post within two days cant fault them at all.

Update.

HDEW didn't send me a manual as promised.

I had to contact them again on my return from holiday and they have replied saying again that they will send one out but it will be for a Rebel T4i.

Wish I had waited a couple of months. The pucker UK version is now cheaper (with cashback) on the high street than what I paid for grey import.

Cheers,

Nigel

I got my 60D from HDEW 9 months ago, and although it came with a manual it was a PDF printout - two pages per sheet with a giant staple through the middle so you have zero chance of folding it - and with some of the pages out of order. Thankfully I'm not the manual-reading type.

Hope you get one sorted out, I've heard good things about HDEW.

With regards to cost - I presume HDEW (and others) are now also cheaper than they were when you bought yours ? Unfortunately, this is the way it generally goes, especially if you buy when something is fairly new out. Looking on the bright side, at least you've had it a few months to have the pleasure of it...

The manual came today and is not as bad as they made it sound.

It is a proper manual, not a print-out.

Also it is titled EOS Rebel T4i EOS 650D so it isn't specifically a US manual. Possibly it is the same as you would get in a UK box anyway.

I have just bought a Canon 5d Mk3 body from Hdew cameras. Very happy with the service. The camera arrived 3 working days after order. Everything was in order UK plug, UK Canon manual - all well packaged and arrived via UPS courier. The camera body came from Hong Kong - but is perfect. The price was very competitive indeed. I would certainly order from Hdew again. I have not had need, of course, to use the warranty cover - but 3 years was included in the price and there is documentary details of where to contact if there is a problem. Recommended! Dave
