HDEW or Panamoz

Then if the mods feel that is the case I am not sure why DR are still advertising on here, especially given the forum rules.

I guess because admin states "Its your responsibility to declare goods, not ours to vet the advertisers for VAT compliance"

Personally I am after the cheapest price, bearing in mind potential warranty. My D7000 body came from Panamoz, but a Tamron lens I am about to order will be UK supplied for the 5 year warranty.

I am also looking to buy a 5D3 from HDEW, and after emailing them with what i would like they sent me a price list and a final figure, and may i say i am impressed with the savings they offered me just for emailing them :)
worth a try will be ordering from them next tuesday

I've bought from both Hdew and Panamoz and both give fantastic service. I had a warranty claim with Panamoz last november for an 11 month old lens and I received a brand new lens 11 days after I'd first emailed them to report a problem. I've never had a warranty claim with any other equipment so I can't comment about other companies but I've heard good things about Hdew which is why I bought there.

If you wanted to be totally legit if you bought from Panamoz all you have to do is inform customs when you receive it and pay the duty on it, then contact Panamoz and they will refund you anyway.

OHHHHH!!!!! Had not even thought of that!!!! FANTASTIC!

Are you 100% sure about this? Very happy about this!

p.s. is there any down side to doing this?

Still not sure about this Jim and haven't seen anything from Mods in the other thread.
I would like to know, has anyone had a VAT invoice for goods bought from DR? Does their "import handling charge" really pay customs duty in advance or is it just like a communal insurance in case anyone gets picked up for duty?

I ordered a 18-55 VR in Feb 2011 from Digital Rev. There's a handling charge on the email receipt, but not VAT on it. I seem to have lost the paper invoice so I can't check that. I also can't remember what the customs label said, though "Camera parts" seems to stick in my mind, but probably lying.

This was before they changed from saying we will pay if stung to we pay upfront. I asked after this change if they can provide a VAT receipt. They said no, so I struck them of the list for my body.

I would be interested to hear if anyone has contacted customs after a mislabled Panamoz delivery. How do you do it, did panamoz honour the claim and did you end up with proof of VAT?

I've started using hdew for all my gear. So far received a 5D3 and 2x600ex-rt flashes with no problems what so ever and will continue to use them in the future. I hate that panamoz took 3 days to reply to my emails and use an answering machine instead of answering a phone call. Hdew for me from now on.

Re. Panamoz - Once I started to mail support i got instant replies and the order processing was really REALLY fast.. almost real time in fact. Tracking number issued very rapidly.. all going to plan.

p.s. is there any down side to doing this?

For you, none whatsoever (aside from being out of pocket for a few days, presumably). For Panamoz, well I would hazard a guess that their prices wouldn't remain competitive for much longer.

Even with VAT paid I think Panamoz prices are still generally very competitive for the UK. Whether the smaller margins are good enough for Panamoz I don't know.

I'd guess they are doing enough volume where they don't have to recompense the VAT to not worry about upping prices immediately.

Have used HDEW twice and I have been very impressed not only by their prices but also by their customer service. Their staff are always friendly and helpful and they are UK based. They have my vote

HDEW are very good to deal with. Had a return recently but was dealt with no nonsense. Good people on the phones.

Never used Panamoz, but I'm another happy HDEW customer.

having just spent 2300 at HDEW i can say so far service has been brilliant, time will tell once it gets delivered.

:)

It's still a grey import, only with VAT paid, so still not valid for UK warranty from Canon/Nikon etc.

Ordered my 5D MK III on Monday from HDEW and it arrived today. Spoke to them on the phone last week to check when they'd have it in stock and they were very helpful, then a few e-mails sent to them during the week as they weren't able to deliver to a different address to the billing address... no problem with that though and they were very good with their communication regarding this.

Also 3 year warranty, 1 of which is an official Canon warranty.

Only thing I can fault them on is that the box the camera arrived in was the 5D MK III + kit lens... I had only ordered the body and got a little excited they'd sent me the kit lens too by mistake. However in the box was just the body so my plans of recouping some money by flogging the kit lens on ebay vanished :D

Haven't checked the camera yet as had to come straight to work, but so far I can say that my experience of dealing with them has been excellent
