Yes
then try this

eBay, please select the first postage option as 'Collect in person' and
offer Free P&P on it and then click on the link 'Add another postage
option'. There you will be able to charge postage normally.[/FONT]

nice of ebay to supply that info..:D

yes i has to do similar when i sold my kite buggy, it looks a bit weird when it has 'free P&P' written on your listing but the details state that the free postage option is 'collect in person'

seems a bit of an arse about tit way to do it tbh, surely a 'collection only' or 'other' option would be better

i tried heavy item on something recently but it wouldnt let me, the wife tried it on some books, which is why i emailed ebay, frustrating it was!

Is this a new innovation, having to offer fixed P&P as determined by them? Similar to what Amazon marketplace does?

I've used ebay off and on for a fair few years but haven't sold anything recently. I'm assuming that it's some new introduction?

it is annoying.. why should they dictate how much you can charge for postage when its not coming out of their pockets.

I'm guessing because it's part of a drive aimed at "improving the buying experience" (in ebay-speak :gag: )and a response to the significant numbers of sellers who quite frankly extract the urine when it comes to the P&P charged, compared to what it actually costs to post and parcel up in a second hand jiffy bag....

punish everyone for the actions of a few.. nice one.

yes i use 2nd hand jiffy bags or boxes from work but personally my postage charges reflect that of the actual cost to post. ive never made money by purposefully over charging, ive even taken the hit on under charging a few times lol

Same here, Neil - excessive P&P REALLY winds me up, so I make a point of charging what it costs me to post.

But ebay (and by extension PayPal) are so biased in favour of the buyer, and so desperate to attract more users, that they do seem determined to make life harder for sellers at every turn.

but surely when you bid on an item you agree to the T+Cs of the sale which includes the stated postal charges. if you no likey you no biddy!

i think the last (and only time) i have sold on ebay i actually lost money on the postage as it was paid for seperately and paypal took their cut of the money, i charged the buyer exactly what it cost me to post (£22.99) but recieved less than that.

Quite so - I have deliberately not bid on certain things I was looking for, just because the seller was having a laugh with the P&P. Sometimes you have no choice though - especially if sellers just look what everyone else is charging and then charge the same..... But those same T&Cs explicitly prohibit charging more of postage than the actual cost.

Even worse is when you agree to pay one rate but then find out that it cost less to send, so in effect the sale price is padded via the postage. Or worst of all, they say they will send it recorded and it comes standard, or 2nd when it should have come first.

Although thinking about it, the latter is probably more risky for a seller now that buyers can leave negative feedback but sellers can't.

And don't get me started on the every increasing final price fees and rip-off PayPal charges! :nono:

I've just remembered why I tend to sell on hobby forums now rather than via ebay!

an ex work colleague sold something on ebay, posted it and then got a shirty email off of the buyer saying that the value of the stamps is 30p less than he paid for postage and that the postage was a rip off. now i can understand that charging £10 more than the postage cost is a rip off, but 30p! christ that probably covers buying the packaging material and the drive down to the postoffice to post it. some people are so arsey its untrue.

obviously not wanting negative feedback he sent him a cheque for £0.30 which unsuprisingly never got cashed!

Gah, too late now but I wish I had noticed this as I've recently sold some cheapish stuff and did free P+P.
Thanks for the tip Matty.

The other point that I am sure made fleabay "introduce" this ruling
There are no fees on P&P
so items were selling for a quid or so with a tenner P&P
with an actual value of a tenner hence minimal fees to pay pal and flea bay

I am all for free P&P as a buyer but not as a (very infrequent) seller :D

TBH there were quite a few rip of merchants with way OTT P&P fees
that needed bring into line though............

Hi

I'm David.

I was just interested to see your post here as i've just ad a bit of go at e bay for what I regard as an overly complcated (and to me) buggy syetem.

I just tried to e bay a mobile phone.

Which ever way I tried to do it, the system was stopping me and the whole thing becomes a time waster.

I tried to use flat rate, that didn't work. It tried to use courier and that didn't work.

Is your method above still working? Maybe this is the answer.

TIA

Yes I was getting everything packed up, taking it down to the post office and getting it weighed etc but its too much of a time water.

I need to be able to weigh at home and calculate from there. I don't want to make on it but once the bill is oiut thee is no going back. You don't want to loose either!

Is this the answer?

I just almost hit BIN on something Ive been after... Til I saw the postage cost at £211!!

It probably weighs about 1.5Kg and could be posted for under a tenner.

ive been annoyed about this again today coincidentally..

been selling dvds and boxsets on there, ebay impose a maximum postage of £1. yet it costs postage alone (no packaging) £2-3 2nd class.

its a pain in the arse.

On the other hand.

We went to a wedding last year and the bride was wearing a dress she had brought through ebay (yep I know strange to me as well) she was telling us that the dress was made for her by the seller.

Turns out you pay 75p for the dress and send all the details sizes etc the dress is then made and sent to you the thing is the postage was £100, looks like people are using this method to avoid ebay fees.

Very common for Honk Kong based clotehs sellers. My Wife did exactlt the same thing for her wedding dress as well.
