Well well well, why have an operation 5 days before leaving to move back to the carribean?:shake:

I asked myself the same question but im having 5 screws removed from my now repaired leg and im leaving the long IM needle in my tibia alone.

Im admitted at 12.15. Its now 10.31 havnt eaten since last night and i can only drink water for another 28 minutes...

Im a little nervous as someone is about to use a big sterile screwdriver on me, but its all good fun.

See you guys later :D

Good luck, it will be fine. My other half had to have two large pins removed from his heel when he smashed it last year and he says it was a piece of cake compared to the first op.

It will all be over before you know it!

good the first op was not soooo bad and ive had it twice as ive broken the leg twice im not to worried just cant be bothered and i need to get back to work tommorow as its the last week i can make extra cash before leaving :D

Good luck Dom Mate.
Hope all goes well and you get some nice nurses?
:p

Matt

Hope it goes well for you :)

I suppose a few pictures would be out of the question?

(good luck btw!)

Right.... im back home, first time in a private hospital and it was great everyone was nice and my legs sore. I can take some pictures of it now but they wouldnt let me there and i was put under but i am now metal free at least as far as i can feel, just have a long nail inside my tibia.

Thanks for the messages, i would like some time off but can afford it so back to work tommorow :D

Years ago when my father was an engineer at Pontefract hospital he was paged to report to one of the operating rooms. When he got there they put a gown/gloves on him and got him to pull the pin out of somebodies thigh, none of the Surgeons were strong enough

:| that must of been an interesting experience

Glad you're recovering and titanium-free.

Personally, I want to be buried with all my titanium parts (from head to toes) :p .. I just wouldn't feel the same without them!

When I broke my thigh in the early 90's they inserted a 13mm diameter pin which ran the full length of my femur. Before I was discharged I asked the surgeon when the pin would need removing and he said 'why, have you got something against our titanium?' It's still there to this day although I did go back in for a relatively minor operation to remove all the screws that originally held it in place. I was told they would only remove the pin if I objected to its presence in my body because it would be much harder to take it out than it was to put it in. I have this vision of your father bent over with one foot on the persons hip pulling for all he's worth. As an aside, I also asked the surgeon if I decided I wanted the pin removed, would I be allowed to keep it (not everyday you shatter a femur). He said I wouldn't as removed pins where sent to third world countries for re-use (I presumed they washed them first!).

im not completely titanium free but at least you cant see it pocking out of my skin :)

Hope it went okay.
And i'll have to come see you in a carribean when I'm (hopefully) working round there!

you cant go wrong with some vitamin D aka "sun" :D

 i told them to do it or i would DIY it...they wouldnt listen :D

Hey man, did you get to keep the bits they took our of your leg?

I think these bits are going to a 3rd-world country to be reused :eek::eek:

nah i dont want to see them again, i will be keeping the nail when that comes out in a few years :D

or not, if it doesnt

should have thought twice before going to work today, i cant find a comfortable spot my knee is swollen my ankle is swollen and im walking like i have a wooden leg... :shake:

pitty me

:D

Sorry you're having such a hard time; and frankly I thought you were very brave to think of going to work the day after such a surgery.

Your body needs time to recover from the trauma, even if you think it's a minor issue; but removing bits from your body, which nature didn't plan to include in the billion of years of evolution, is not an easy feat!

I hope you recover well.

yeah i know i should have taken at least today off but they paid me until friday when my contract ends so i feel like i must honour it. Im only at a desk doing admin work with my leg propped up on a chair.... but lots of paracetamol and ibuprofen...

Hello! Sorry to hear what you are going through! Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Ah! So now the truth is coming out, that tripod ring I sent you was for propping the gammy leg up :lol::lol:

Just be grateful you got a pin and screws - try having to have a fasciotomy and then an external fixator for 6 months
