Have You Tried This???

How would you propose to do it :) Before we give tips and techniques :) What do you think would deliver such an image?

Think about the light sources lighting the scene, Is there more than one? Close to the setup or far away? How big is the light relative to the scene?

Where is the regions of focus vs out of focus? How close to the scene was the camera?

I am sure you can find your own bowl and fork ;)

It might have been taken with a focused light, so try a projector or something similar (silde projector couple of quid in second hand shop) failing that try off camera flash or maybe even strong sunlight (if you can find any)

OK. I would Position and frame the photo first then worry about the shadow.

I will take the photo in a studio so that i have complete control over the lighting and power of them.

I would position the light slightly to the right and forward of the fork to achieve the shadow.

Is this how you guys would think to do it?

Thanks
Sam

What about the shadow under the bowl?

You need a lightsource from above.

This shot I took a while back may give you an idea or two.

Rather than just thinking about the light, think about the quality of the light. Is it hard or soft? how do you replicate that?

soft light - big light source relative to subject

hard light - small light source relative to subject

Nice Pic sbowler

Let me guess ... Photoshop ;)

I doubt very much there was any photoshop involved in that photo. (except for rotating the image maybe)

Have a think about where the light would be coming from for it to cause those shadows.

djs have you looked at the shadows in sbowler's image?

sbowler, I like the idea but I can see clearly see feathering around the shadows and there is a strange dark patch near the end of the fork shadow at the top of the photo.

Ha! Goodness me. I saw you comment and I've been sat here trying to work out what's been photoshopped.

Just clicked! :bonk:
