Um, the Mayans never predicted the end of the world at all. 21/12/12 is when their calender resets as we enter a new epoch. The doom merchants are just cashing in on fear-mongering.

I doubt anyone sane belives it. So the question really is "have you ever met anyone who is insane"

What the scare mongers haven't taken into account is leap years, which were introduced by Julius Caesar, centuries after the Mayan calender evolved. If it had been followed exactly, the world should have ended July 2012!
 
Damn right I believe it...haven't even done any Christmas shopping yet since the world all goes up in an Acme style mushroom cloud. :bonk::bonk: ;)

They believe it because of the reasons I noted. Certain nefarious folks have deliberately misinterpreted this event to spread fear or make a buck.

I have met a couple of people who think the world revolves around them, and that if they didn't exist it would surely end :lol:
 
I'm in the process of maxing out my credit cards so here's hoping.
 
I know for a fact the world will end on the 21st....for me at least....it's my 30th birthday :(

Our work's Christmas do is on the day the world ends. I hope the end comes first ;)

No.. it's a fact. It will end. That's not a guess. When it will end is a guess, and an educated one would put that at around 10 billion years.... give or take.
 
according to some experts if it wasn't for the human race and it's production of CO2 the planet would have been in an ice age long ago. The planet will carry on it just won't be habitable for the human race. I'm sure when the end does come the government will tax us lol

What I do find the funny is those folk who buy survival stuff for after the end of the world, by definition there will be nothing to survive, it's the END of the world , dumb ass.


Personally I believe there world will continue forever because even after the sun dies, those four turtles that are carrying our planet will have moved us to a safer place. Must be true I read it in a book and saw in on a film.

In my last job, one of the women I worked with kept bringing up the Mayan thing, but in a jovial way. As the year progressed her own world seemed to fall apart and references to 21/12/12 became more frequent. She quit the job in May but I still get the odd end of the world message from her :nuts:

No it really isn't.

Our scientific understanding indicates it will end, but we do not know this for absolute fact. We can't.

It also depends on your definition of "end".

Is the end when it becomes inhabitable by humans? Is it when it explodes? Is it when it has no atmosphere etc etc
