Whilst i was on holiday i had a problem with my fairly new D300,the problem is when i switch it off the top display remains on for longer than it should ie maybe upto a minute obviously looking like it is still switched on, i thought it was probably something to do with the very hot weather as it only happened a few times, anyway yesterday i went out to take a few pics and it started happening again, and not only that but when i tried to zoom in on a picture it would'ent do it right away, anyway in any event i'm taking it back tomorrow to see what the shop says, but i just wondered if any other owners had had this problem, also do you think i should ask for a replacement or let them send it off to Nikon, i bought it in january, it's a pain really as i'm going to scotland on thursday and wanted to take it with me :bang:

I've not had that at all. I do know that there are quite a few saying that they have a few electrical issues that can usually be sorted ny cleaning the contacts between lens and camera.
Its usually focus and dead battery syndrome though. Keep us informed please.

Me neither, although I did have a focus issue with my first D300. When I got it, it wouldnt focus, kept going in and out of focus all the time. I got it to work by switching to manual focus then back, it seemed ok then. Next day however, it kept giving me "err" in the viewfinder, so it went back to Jessops.
New camera is perfect, much sharper than the first one, which was obviously faulty from the start. Mind you, the box did look as if it had been dropped!

How long had you had it, and did they replace it or send it to Nikon ?

Never had any problems with my D300 (apart from the obvious hole in my finances!!) - take it back and get a replacement!

is this after long shooting periods/bursts? sounds like it might be the cache clearing into the memory card.

Sometimes yes, but there is always a gap before i switch off, i really don't think it could be what you mentioned but thanks for the feedback.

can this be changed? settings wise? my D200 had this left on the screen after i switched it off. not sure how long for though

Check your auto meter off delay in C2

Occasionally my D200 does this but normally when the battery is very low. Not heard of it on the D300 before though.

i forgot to say, the one i just got only displays the number of pics left on the time i have noticed it (something like [51] for instance)

Tel,

if you are worried about it, I can lend you my D200 as a back up for a few days to take with you.

But surely this would only happen if i set it like it  i first noticed it in Thailand where it was very hot and when the sun got on the camera, then on saturday it started happening again funnily enough when the sun was hitting it, then a few times i could'ent zoom in on the last photo i took  i will definately take it back to jessops i was going to do it today but time did'ent permit, i will keep you posted.

I was using it with a battery grip and both batterys where fully charged before i left home on all occasions, and when i got home still plenty of life left

I've had a D300 for 3 weeks without a problem, yesterday was the 1st time I used it for a prolonged period, 3 or 4 times it went dead and the low battery indicator flashed in the top display, switching it on and off cured it, I was using a sigma 120-300 so was wondering if that was the problem, have there been reported problems with the D300 and dead battery syndrome then

Well took it back today, when i told the guy in the shop what was wrong with it he asked me what i did to try put it right, ie take the battery out and put it back in, i said no not done anything, i was'ent aware i had to remove the battery and put it back in on a £1000 + camera to get it right, anyway he would'ent replace it so has sent it back to Nikon,i'm not 100% happy about that but i guess i have to give them the opportunity to see whats wrong before replacing it, will keep you posted as to what happens, thanks very much for all your feedback

Does anyone notice that when you take a picture with the colour purple in it it seems to show blue or have a blueish tint to it. Is there a way of correcting this ?
