Have you got your heating on yet?

Ours has been on in the background since mid September, and using the circulation to heat the radiators since the end of september. We live in a valley, and it's been cold.

Since Mrs Nod is up at 05:45 several mornings a week, the heating goes on when she wants it to go on! Thermostat's set at 18°C.
 
We don't have an electronic thermostat - I manage the heating temperature manually. That's not as odd as it sounds, because we have a 300 year old cottage with thick walls and substantial thermal inertia, so a temperature change outside can take a day or more to make a difference.
 
I've had the heating clicking on just for a short time in the morning and a little bit in late afternoon, which so far is enough. The house sits around 18°C during the day without the heating being on. We've got a wood burner to compliment the gas CH, which we use for heat and not aesthetics. I didn't use it so much in the past when buying kiln dried logs because it actually works out more expensive than the central heating, but now I put my chainsaw to work and season the logs myself, so it costs a little bit of my time and a drop of petrol/oil.

The house is crazy insulated at the attic/roof level due to the conversion, but on ground level I deliberately left the exposed floorboards with the gaps unsealed to allow airflow from a large crawl space beneath. This can cause a slight draft on very cold windy days.
 
I haven't yet. Personally I dont feel the cold as much as I used too. This is odd as I'm now on blood thinners. Blessed if I know whats going on there.. :confused:
It's getting colder though, I started to feel a bit chilly walking the dog late last night, mind I was only wearing a shirt and trousers. The winter thick jacket will be coming out soon.
 
My brothers wife wears a pair of woollen gloves in bed :eek:
 
We stick the heating on if chilly, 8° outside this morning, just had two days in hospital so feeling the temperature change, but if we feel it chilly the heatings on(in the main used rooms) and screw the cost.

Do you have good solar gain in winter too? We have small windows, and get very little warmth from the sun when it's cold, although it's also a big advantage in summer.
 
Old house - secondary DG - but not allowed "proper" double glazing as we are Grade 2 listed ........ plus we have to replace windows etc., with the same, (of course wooden)

we get lots of condensation in winter so we have a few de-humidifiers plus my morning round is to "vacuum" the windows

Heating has been on a couple of weeks now but we are waiting for a plumber to fit 2 new radiators - (should say trying to find a plumber, but it looks like I'll have to fit them myself!!)

I'm not sure if being honest. We have large sash windows (all double glazed) and it can be quite bright, so probably a little. But conversely it probably goes against us in winter.
 
Heating on last couple of days.
My wife fractured her hip last month and is having to sit down a lot more than usual.

They should help a bit. There's not much warmth from the sun then, but it can help a little.
 
Had it on for an hour from 7am and for around half an hour about noon. Might have/need it on later as today is the first day of the autumn it has felt cold, to me. Just looked at the thermometer outside and it is 5C.

Well, my heating has been on all month, set at 19.5, but only when its needed. These last few years I have felt the cold a lot more than I used to.

yeah mine has been on for most of this month , i decided last year to just spend more on the gas now in winter, main problem i have is a holiday home in Gran Canaria so we head over there as much as we can and its like 24degs during the day and 18degs at night so coming home is crap
