No
Gone out armed with 2 cameras, determined to get a really nice wintry scene, and just spent 2 hours driving around with absolutely no idea of where to go?
Just couldn't get any ideas in my head at all.

:(

I have been out early both yesterday and today, nice crisp winters mornings, haven't had the camera out of the bag yet. Yesterday I found the right location with the right light but couldn't find anywhere to stop (busy rural main road but not even a farm entrance to be found), this morning very thick fog, so thick you couldn't even do a nice low contrast landscape, it was just a blanket of thick white.

Don't worry about it, one of the aspects of being a landscape photographer, sometimes conditions just aren't right. Console yourself with the fact that it is a nice time to be out and about even if you're not getting shots.

I do this regularly, and at any time of the year

Like Mark has said i generally find a decent place but with no where even remotely close to actually stop and park up

so went out yesterday morning after my night shift - i felt the right conditions/location was'nt there so came back home for a brew..i'll just keep on trying.

no ive got a nikon :D

Lucky you, I don't drive, so have to get up at silly o clock to get to a location. Been thinking about taking the tent to the South downs so I can capture both sunset and rise. But my old bones wouldn't be too happy..

No.. I get the ideas in my head before I even think of picking up a camera... let alone two of them.

I have done this too many times on night shoots (though with shots/subjects in mind), drive for an hour or 2 and after forecasting clear skies its just thick solid cloud.

its turning into a standard procedure with the weather forecasts at the moment :(

Along vaguely similar lines, in June, we headed off (as usual) to Crete for 2 weeks, me armed with the SLR kit (only 1 body) and a vague plan as to what I'd like to shoot. Due to my illness at the time (all sorted now), I had no energy, balance or inclination to do any of the things I had vaguely planned - in fact, I carried the bloody kit around for 14 days and took the grand total of 1 (one) shot! I've always made it a rule that if I take a piece of kit on holiday and don't use it, it stays at home the next time we go, so I'm not allowing myself to take the SLR kit next year! Instead, I've bought myself a bridge (Fuji HS30) and a couple of compacts (both Fujis, an XF1 and an X10) which all together weigh less (and take up less space) than the D700 and 2 lenses.

I'm allowing myself to break the rule of "use it or lose it" a bit - I didn't use my snorkel, flippers and mask this year but I'm pretty sure that to have done so would have been dangerous (possibly even fatal...) so I'm allowed to take them next year! If I was being strict, I would simply buy another set of snorkelling kit there anyway, so my rule bending will save me a few pennies.

Glad you're ok. I had illness (heart attack) 3 years ago, and still get complications from it, so have days where I'm lifeless and hopeless in every way. If you can't tell, I've suffered with depression aswell, which I've almost beaten! Photography is a hell of a way to kick yourself up the arse and get out of the house, its a wonderful hobby. So its very miserable, especially for me, when I can't get any inspiration whatsoever. But its nice knowing I'm nit the only one who's best intentions go down the pan. :)

Mine turned out to be a Meningioma (won't bore you and everyone else with the details again! Wiki explains what they are - mine was completely operable and has been removed succesfully, making me a completely new man). I had been diagnosed with typeII diabetes shortly before the holiday and I put the tiredness etc down to that (as did the quack I saw). I've been lucky as far as mental health and not suffered from any depression - in fact, I'm more manic than the other way (with no signs of the other pole, than the gods).

The only downside has been the surrender of my driving license, leaving me at the mercy of busses (best avoided!) and the kindness of friends. Only 2 and a bit weeks (23 days - I'm not counting the hours yet!) until I can reapply and start driving again, looking forward to getting back on the bike (Royal Enfield 500 EFI) and behind the wheels of her (MX5) and my new (XF) cars.

It's fine, I know what one of those is. My uncle had an inoperable one, and died, so I know how serious they are.
I think we needs some pics of the Royal Enfield and the Jag, and the MX-5 if you must, haha. I love, absolutely love, anything with an engine, as the saying goes, 4 wheels good, 2 wheels better. :)

I was very lucky (!) where my M was - right on the surface, just inside the skull, so relatively easy to get at and remove.

There are pics of the Enfield somewhere (there was a bike thread a while back) and some of the Mazda before it came to us (Yv and her Geza had it before us). I'm sure the Jaaaggg will find itself at the shiny end of a lens soon after we pick it up!

2 wheels better as long as the weather's suitable. Done too many miles getting persisted on - decent w/proofs help but it's still sodding miserable riding in cr@p weather! Then there are wet leaves, manhole covers and un defrosted/demisted cars...

I did an autumn run to a bike meet in Whitby. Weather was lovely all the way up, then the monsoon season opened up on us on the way back, 180 or so miles in torrential rain. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING was soaked, despite very good one piece waterproofs and a pinlock visor. Even the back of my head got soaked! :(
