...almost been arrested trying to get a photo? Or actually been arrested? :lol: I know a few of you have mentioned being escorted off premises and things.
I'd like to see the shots you got that led to you "almost" being arrested etc.
What was the most risky thing you did to get your photo?
I'm just being inquisitive today. :)
 
Well this is the closest I've come to actually being arrested - for anything photography related anyway ;)

:lol::lol::lol: Oh dear oh dear!! At the sheffield meet, I dont think we're going to play "who can get arrested first" [we're meeting in meadowhall]
 
Some nearly get arrested before they start - don't they Pete? ;)

Seriously though - reading Grendel's post it's definately worth knowing your rights as a photographer

This is a great link for UK Photographer's Rights it's a double sided A4 guide in PDF format. I've got one firmly in my camera bag.

Well now yesterday......:lol:

Phase one [of getting officials worried] - standing in the waiting room of the jetty under the london eye, waiting for a boat up the Thames, when a uniformed chap pokes his head round the door having seen Jonnyrebs big one [:eek:]. "I see you....OHHHHHH.....theres a whole group of you!" [as he spots 5 more of us standing around also weilding cameras] ... his face falls...He asks, in a very nervous 'I dont want to be doing this' kind of way, whether we are amateurs or commercial togs. "oh amateurs of course" :whistling: a few more questions and he was off, having done as his bosses ordered and getting out of there before a bunch or fairly tall chaps and one small but nasty female turned on him :lol:


Phase two - sheltering from the rain at the exit of the foot tunnel at Greenwich, up pulls a police car and a pair of Londons finest, "just checking everything is ok" they said...hmmmmm :suspect: There was something about bombs, but I was too busy digging around in my bag to hear it, the others will have to fill you in on that bit :lol:

I nearly got arrested in America a few months ago.

I was taking photos of the farmers market @ San Fran harbour (in this big hall type thing). A huge copper (I'm 6'2 and he dwarfed me) and this dodgy porn star tached security guard came running over to me.

The copper muscled in first asking me what i was doing and did I know I was on private property and what if members of the public didn't want their photos taking, etc etc.

I slowly lifted my head up from the viewfinder and said what does it matter as you are now standing in front of the lens!

The security guard smiled (i think) and the copper persued his line of enquiry!!!

After establishing that terrorists (obviously) don't dress in Newcastle shirts, combat shorts and old Nike trainers, they turned out to be pretty friendly people - even giving me advice on good angles and busy market stalls!!!

The highlight however was the look on my wife's face when she arrived back from buying some home made fudge (or was it honey?) to see these 2 uniformed officials joyfully looking at our holiday snaps on the back of the camera! If only I'd have got that shot!

In UK - never had any problems. (Touch wood!)

so are all security people wanna be photographers then ? judging by all the advise on camera angles etc ,, : i didnt want to do this job ,, i wanted to be ,,,,,,,,,,,a lumberjack ,,,no photographer .......................
 
I had the camera set up on the tripod, taking a few test shots to gauge the exposure. A couple of police women appeared from nowhere and asked me what I was doing. So I told them I was taking some photographs.

It seemed as if they weren't quite prepared for this reply, for some reason which escapes me. They went into a little huddle, and eventually decided to ask me who I was taking them for. Myself, I said.

Apparently that was OK. Good job I didn't crack under the pressure and tell them that I was really taking them for my mate Mohammed.

This one time I was drawing stick figures using a torch on a main road. Long exposure, run off, draw, run back and check. We noticed someone was peering out their curtains to see what was going on. Next thing we saw a police car go by. "Oh dear, I hope he doesn't turn around." 2 minutes later he comes back. "Whats going on here?" Um, well basically we're drawing stick figures with a torch. I think if we were doing anything shadey we wouldn't have used such a stupid cover :D

No, but I got firmly told off for daring to try use a tripod at night in front of the fence by the Whitehouse :(
