Have you ever had that feeling “I wonder what those people think I’m doing?”

So lately I’ve been out for a few hours late afternoon driving round trying to spot different things to photograph but not necessarily getting out with the camera just making a note of where and what’s there ….. Have you ever had that feeling “I wonder what those people think I’m doing?” It’s all came from the fact I love the country side but don’t live there so it involves driving up spotting things then returning a different day but as I know a some people who live out there and my love for the country side (which I follow a lot of country side pages) there’s been a huge increase in theft and suspicious activity in the country side especially recently so people who live out there are keeping more of an eye on people looking suspicious now I’ve got nothing to hide and I know exactly why I’m out there driving round, basically my question is:

Would you spend money on a removable sign for your car? Now I’m not talking a big flashing beacon but just something with your photography logo on to put in the back window.

I know thief’s could do exactly the same but actually be up to know good pretending to be a photographer or anything for that matter but I just feel like the locals would be less …… concerned about your “suspicious driving” if they could see your logo in the car.

Or this me just having too much time to think while driving around?

Can we get the swear filter to block the word "dibble"? It's really starting to get on my nerves now.
On a side note, I've been in Manchester for 4 years and have never heard it used here.

What's the worse that can happen, someone reports your car reg to the polis, as some point you might get asked a couple of questions, as your not doing anything wrong your not going to get any heat...

Lets put it this way, in all my interactions with the police while out with my camera and there have been many, I've only ever had one bad interaction and that wasn't bad specifically because of photography...

Nearly every time it's pretty simple...

Exchange of pleasantries...then asked what I'm up to...tell what I'm doing, if suitable offer to show them what I'm doing, then it's goodbye with often further pleasantries...on particular evening I even had one particular youngest female officer having a go at shooting a light trail with my camera

im thinking that now ,,,what are you doing going out cameraless?

I wouldn't bother. One thought would be it might target your car for opportunist thieves

If anyone asks just tell them your from the benefits office chasing down cheats and would they mind not drawing attention to you. If it's middle class England you'll get an instant quiet nod of approval, if not they'll drop you like a stone and scurry on...

Not to mention the possible insurance implications..

For example openly advertising that you may have expensive equipment onboard may invalidate your cover through increase risk. And the logo may lead your insurance to believe you are using the vehicle for business use.

Don't worry about it , do what you do, no-one elses business, I do the same thing all the time, having said that I do keep a look out for dodgy goings on from my lofty position on the hillside, and people have the nerve to stop outside my house to photograph my view, it's my view, I bought it with my house, how very dare they, I'll have to start charging them.

some very valid comments about insurance as it is literally a hobby and not a business , and opportunist thief's paying more attention to my car, so I think ill stick to driving suspiciously and be looked at like I'm doing something wrong.

oh and just to clear something up I never go camera-less always carry it with me "on my drives" but don't always stop to take photos ... might not be the right light or sky but perfect for location spotting

For example last night was a disgusting night for landscape photography IMO but I found 2 locations I wouldn't mind returning and they could both work with either a better sky or better light.

my interpretation may have been flawed Ben ,,,,:)
theres nothing worse than seeing something unusual or happening and not having a camera with you .

Of course not. I don't give a damn what people think I'm doing. If they want to know, they can ask me.

LOL, I've lived in and around Manchester all of my life (almost 60 yrs) and the only time I have ever heard the term "dibble" is when I watched top cat as a kid!

I prefer "rozzers". I may write a thank you mail to James May for making that popular again :)

Yep rozzers was the one. other popular names were filth, fuzz & plod.
