Have there been any new inventions since the end of WWII

But LCD is an improvement on cathode ray. The former wouldn't have been invented if the latter hadn't been first.

In that case nothing was after WW2 as its all based on electricty or it has miving mechanisms, such as cogs, which are based on the wheel

how far back to we have to do before it is no longer considered an improvement?

Hovercraft.

Microprocessor.

CD.

funny smart arse as in ash the person wasnt invented b4 them

Laser? Just a filtered torch.

Pretty much all inventions are the bringing together of a couple of different advances to make a new advance.

If you are looking for totally new then you need to find things which were accidental discoveries.

Wasnt DNA fingerprinting an accidental discovery? The technique, not the idea of dna obviously.

Satellites? I think the first one got sent up in 1952, or something like that.

I was gonna suggest the microchip but that technology is based on valves and switches as they handled on/off binary codes but at a much slower rate.

Forum Trolls.

There have been more inventions since the end of WWII than in all the time before it.

inventions or patents?

Are you going to let me have the transistor or is that an evolution of the valve?

Basically, everything can be viewed as an evolution - no car without the wheel, etc.

The key test for patents is "inventive step" and many of the examples show that.

Israel was invented after WW2, The National Health Service,

Sled kite

PowderJect needle-free delivery of drugs and vaccines

Carbon fibre and Kevlar

i pod

nintendo wii

the wispa bar [theres nothing even close to it]

William Shockley can't claim the transistor, but he proposed the thyristor.

i dont believe there were any handheld portable emailing devices before ww2, so blackberry.

also

bluray disk

sky+

playstation/xpox/etc

laptop computer

OLED

Dolby Digital Sound

Velcro ?

It wasn't patented until 1951

How about....

nuclear power, manhattan project never considered power generation (i think)

also I dislike the nitpicking gayness of this thread

that was invented by a guy that was out walking when something got stuck to his sock so he looked at it under a microscope and saw the hook an eye in miniature.

The jet engine was invented by Frank Whittle in 1928, the stupid british government wouldn't give him any money as they thought the piston engine was better :bonk:

the phrase "credit crunch"

photo storybooks - you know digital ones

"safety camera partnership" i guess this is wrong - we have been taxed for years

microwave ovens?

Jim Lovelock claims to have invented it, while experimenting on bringing frozen rodents back to life. That was post-WWII, but the De Havilland Mosquito fuselage halves were cured with RF heating and ISTR reading about aircraft workers using that gear to warm their lunches.

...ISTR reading about aircraft workers using that gear to warm their lunches.

ISTR? We need facts, not recollections... :D

That aside, an interesting post all the same. All we need now is Ashers making an appearance claiming everything is based on secret alien technology...
