No
We live in a world full of gadgets but are any of them new or are they all improvements of existing ideas.

Is there anything available now that wasn't around in some form 50 years ago

when you think of the many inventions of the 19th and early 20th century we seem to be inventing nothing new.

Unless you know otherwise

your 5D? :p

er i think the camera was around 100 years before WWII :D

iphone?

Hair splitting bar stool :D OK! The technology of digital cameras.

*waits for flaming over the word "improvement" from the film purists! :D*

Don't worry bud, they've not figured out how to find this section yet, modern tech and all that :D

An improvement on the original TV screen, also invented pre WWII.

Not totally true, LCD and cathode ray are two very different things.

Based on computers which were invented before WWII

What the? So basically, television was around before WWII, so that means LCD isn't invented after WWII? Your argument sucks!

But LCD is an improvement on cathode ray. The former wouldn't have been invented if the latter hadn't been first.

No, it's not. It's used for a massive number of things other than TVs. Look at your camera for a start. Did cameras have TVs in em during and before WWII? :D

Oh, wait - hoolahoops

EDIT - sorry, they're actually over 3000 years old :bonk:

Didn't say LCD wasn't invented after WWII. Just that it was invented based on an existing pre WWII invention. I think the OP was intimating that any post WWII inventions are actually progressions on pre WWII inventions.

Talking about the technology, not it's uses. If the CRT TV wasn't ever invented, LCD screens probably wouldn't have been.

But the foundations were laid down by Einstein in 1917. ;)

Close that Wiki page...

And that's pedantic at best... So while we're being pedantic, you said "Have there been any new inventions since WW2".

Study of radiation hardly constitutes an invention. Einstein created nothing tangible, nothing at all which can be linked to what we know as Lasers today. Therefore, the first Laser was invented in 1960.
