Have just got rid of a virus....

Evening all

Mnaged to get myself a virus last night it was flashing up windows command processor which i have spent all today and getting rid off and have touch wood got rid of it. My question is there anyhting i should do after i have got rid of a virus or am not.

This is what my log says on malwarebytes
C:\Users\dex\Downloads\SoftonicDownloader_for_microsoft-standalone-system-sweeper.exe (PUP.ToolbarDownloader) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

I had a couple more detected by windows defender but i cant find what they were as i think i accidently deleted what it said it had removed.

malware is a cracking free program that helps rid you of spamish...

i always run this on pc's i repair for susspicious things, and it always finds cr~p.

download and run rkill and see if it stops any processes. if it does run malwarebytes again. you could also run combofix to really clean things out if you want to be sure, just don't run anything else while doing it as that can FUBAR things.

Most Windows malwares nowadays are profile specific... the way the modern versions of Windows is designed doesn't allow foreign software to interfere with the entire system, so the malware just infects the specific profile to be more of a nuisance than anything else. sometimes it's worth just ditching the profile, making a new one and deleting the old one, which kills the malware with it.

I would go and change passwords for every online account you have used on that PC recently in case there has been a keylogger at work.
