Have I been lucky (Car mechanical talk)

or even a FEAD Belt (front end accessory drive)

Talking of belts, I am collecting my car tomorrow without a compressor belt :), but no aircon :(, never been without aircon for a good while.

Can you wind the windows down? I've heard that works in a similar fashion to aircon

 if its a really flash model, you can open the sunroof at the same time and create some real throughput :D

As well as being able to wind the windows down I do have an electric sunroof and it does work in a similar way to air con but it is not as quiet as air conditioning at 70mph:)

Your just after a ride in Hep's car:D

Car is now back home, the garage did not charge me for any of the work, another one of the reasons I keep going back to them for all work on my car.
I also had two very minor dents taken out while it was in dock by Dent devils and was only charged what the garage pay to have it done.

If they've taken the pump off why don't you get it reconditioned, there should be someone local that does it, it's only a compressor

They have removed the belt and the belt wheel only I guess it is best to leave it all intact until the day it is fixed either with an OEM pump or non OEM I rang a few local aircon specialists and they said it would have to be replaced.
The Dealer price for the whole job is a staggering £1100 but the service manager is going to do some enquiring for me to see what they can come up as they know a few suppliers, this might be the better option as they would then have the responsibility if something is not quite right, parts don't match, or parts are missing.
I have emailed the supplier mentioned in one of the replies and they have not answered my questions so that kind of puts me off that supplier.
I will see what the service manager can come up with.

Have you tried ringing round some of the Japanese car breakers, you might find they have recon units or even a nearly new secondhand unit at a decent price. If you have no joy by Monday pm me the exact model details of the car and I'll do some asking around and see what I can come up with :)

Thanks for your offer of help but I would like to see what my trusted dealer can come up with first, I don't mind paying a bit extra knowing they carry the responsibility of it working etc, rather than run the risk of getting a dud and the inconvenience of taking it back, leaving my car there, having to get lifts etc. my Honda branch is over 30 miles away and not easy to get to by bus If Mrs G can not take me in her car.

See what I mean, its doing my head in:cuckoo:

Just to update, I now have my aircon fixed, I sourced a brand new compressor from http://www.ariazone.co.uk/ , cost £350 delivered, this supplier was recommended by the Honda Dealers.

They charged £113 for fitting, which was at a discounted rate of £40 per hour down from £70 per hour.

Well satisfied with the service from my Honda Dealership.

My timing belt was due for renewal a few years back on my Cavalier (I think it was 4k of being due) I'd bought one myself to fit at some point, but coming off the M56 one day it decided it was going to slip!! At first I thought it was a fuel pump problem or similar but the AA man checked that 1st when he arrived and identified the timing as the problem. I mentioned that I had one ready to fit on my parcel shelf and the kind AA chappy said stuff it and fitted at the roadside!! :) An hour later, my Cav was running like a dream, and I'd saved a Saturday of getting covered in oil, all for the price of AA membership (which is certainly cheaper than 1 1/2's labour at Vauxhall!!)

Jobsa :D

As this car was first registered in March 2001 I am now going to be penalised by Gordon Brown for keeping it on the road.
