I feel as if i am being haunted by MPB, i do occasionally go on their website but now every time i open a web page i get their blinking banner spread across it , how do i get rid of it ,I have no scripts and cookies enabled but still it follows me round the web?

They advertise on TP, which is why you have the banner ads. Mind you, not sure why it's following you round on other pages... :)

I have an Ad blocker running on Safari. I don't even see Ad's on youtube!! :D

Ad Block Plus FTW

They are probably using google adwords remarketing. This means that if you visit their web site, their ads appear when you visit other web sites in the Google Display Network.

It drives me mad. I was looking for a garden shed some time ago and was bombarded with garden sheds ads everywhere I went on the Internet :(

I don't like this Google feature at all

If you use Google to search for anything, you will be in their cookie jar, go to google and at the bottom, click on privacy, click on the ad preference link and adjust your settings.

You can contol much of what appears, but it's all part of the 'user experience' ;)

Phil.

Many thanks for that Phil. Those pesky adverts have been frustrating me for I don't know how long but I've never found out how to disable them ... until now. Cheers!

 it has been a close call with some search terms, the problem with cookies is they follow your web use like a shadow, stray onto a ....... risque webpage and the wrath of the wife will become you :D

Ah - thanks for the pointer - Now I've turned it off...

I searched for a tent once for someone - just got tent adverts for weeks after that...

Thanks for that, Phil, you learn something everyday:)

always clear your browsing history and delete your cookies after searching for inadvertently straying on to () dodgy websites

I much prefer the discussion that starts with " well if you were more adventurous......" and ends with " I hope the dog likes your snoring in his bed...."

Life is for living - be adventurous, the dog basket aint that bad after the first 2 nights ;)

EDIT>>>>
have a look here for more info on adsense and how it works, how you can limit it.

Thanks for the suggestions about Google, will give that a try.

Chrome + ad block = no ads, anywhere!

I highly recommend it.

the only trouble with all these ad blockers is that TP depends on advertising income to pay the server fees - so if everyone uses Ad blockers, shortly no one willpay to advertise on here and then there'll be no forum :'(

Thats why you just need to use the settings in google, clear the ads you dont want. People in general are either lazy or not nosey enough to see what they sign up for, who really reads the terms and privacy settings when signing up for anything?

To be honest, I don't really notice the ads, it's just part of the wallpaper that decorates the interweb halls.

+1 for duckduckgo but sometimes it doesnt give as good a result as google

Agree. I don't mind seeing ads as proper banners in a forum and someone has to be for these things on the internet...
