A good friend of mine goes to Russia occasionally, so as I have always fancied a good medium format camera but don't have much to spend should I ask him to get me a Kiev 88 if he sees one cheap?
Or waste the money on something else?
If so whats the going rate?

I can't comment on the going rate I just bought the Kiev 60 more because I liked the look and feel of one I handled recently. You need to bear in mind if you have a problem with them then its kind of out with the screwdrivers or send away and according to myth reliability is an issue with these former soviet union cameras. Personally look at the TLR's or the mamiyas.

I want this as our daughter wants to have a go with film as part of her art A level,I would love a Mamiya but its just too expensive well the ones I have seen are all over £200
I did wonder if he got me a Kiev that's was cheap I could always sell it on once we have finished with it, I suppose we could do the same with any medium format camera but would have to just tie the cash up whilst she used it

If it's for A level, I think 35mm SLR may be better than medium format.

I agree but she wants to try different cameras and formats, I though this may be a quick have a go at Medium format, we will be spending plenty on processing of the 35mm and printing etc so the budgets tight

I looked into these a bit and its more will it work than the cost of them.

I have a cracking folder I am looking to move on if interested.
A Zeiss Ikonta M

I bought it of a member here to get myself into MF

Makes sense that she may want to try different formats, so as others have said, go for a TLR or folder rather than a Kiev for more value and a different shooting experience.
