Hasselblad today announced a whopping new camera, the H3D11-50. That's right, they've done it again. 50 megapixels of goodness this time around, creating a 300MB file with each click of the shutter.

I saw an ad. for this today in one of the magazines, the shop offering this camera under a deal where they'd give you the 30MP version to use until your 50MP is delivered (due out in October) and you'd get a free MacBook Pro. too!

In all honesty, I think this is one sexy camera; if I could afford it, I'd buy it ... if just for the pleasure of trying it out.

And how many big ones would this baby set you back ??????

Im sure someone said to me this formula: Each 1MP = £1000

Crikey, and a free MacBook Pro?? These cameras must cost a bomb and a half

We really are at the point now where these cameras exist more because they can than because there is any real need for them.

I have to say that nothing about that camera excites me or gets me wanting to make images. An old 6*6 hassy, now that feels and sounds like a piece of class engineering. :D

It was when I got my first digiback but it's about half that these days. Cheap as chips eh.

Oh !! Not just a free MacBook Pro, but they will also give you - FREE OF CHARGE - the 30MP version to use up until your 50MP version is delivered to you! So, you will not be without a Hassie until October!

dazzajl,

To me, any Hassi would be a God send ... I would not reject this, and I am sure there is a lot of inherited features to still merit this as a marvel of engineering

You can tell Photokina is just around the corner, although I think Bladd got pipped a few weeks ago on the worlds largest sensor...maybe in an slr

"They're again boasting the world's largest sensor, a Kodak product that comes in at a doozie of a 36x48mm hunk of love."

Leaf announced their new digital back "M/F" sensor, describing it as "true wide frame", stopping short of calling it a full 645 frame, but its not far off at 56mm x 36mm and 56mp.
I reckon, within a year or so we'll see a true full Medium Format film sized digital sensor at 6x6, or 56mm x 56mm

Leaf AFi 10

wonder how long it will be before digital medium format becomes affordable for the ordinary folk.

They do a digiback conversion for the old 500 series models which is a bit cheaper

I'm sure the H3D-II-31 was about £20k+vat not long ago, now it's under £10k......at that rate I reckon I'll be able to afford one by 2025

Expensive toy, but just think 5 or 6 weddings, and the 10K one could be yours!!

AWESOME :D

How much are decent lenses for it?

For example...:D ?

The equivilent of the nifty fifty is a shade over a grand. Oh and it's not quite as fast at a mere f2.8.

Most of the rest are about 2 grand and from what I hear, they are all decent. ;) Made by Fuji by the way, who have been top notch for a long long time.

Did Hasselblad used to make their own lenses? Swear it used to be someone other than Fuji anyway...

Re: Medium format digi pricing. You could be encouraged by how quickly 'crop sensor' and 35mm digi came down in price.. but I'd guess we're at a point now where marketing will take over and they'll never become affordable per se. Not for a reeeeeally long time at least.

1ps lol, would need to be good at events or capturing the moment

looks impressive though
