Just charging some NiCad packs for the above and the manual says it takes about 5 hours for a full charge but does anyone know if the amber charging light on the battery goes out or changes colour when they are full? I am assuming it doesnt and it is on because it is accepting a charge so plan to just leave it for five hours or so and assume job done.

From what I can tell it goes to green for fully charged.

Just out of interest there are some companies out there that can refurbish old ni-cad packs with new nimh cells.
I had an old dive torch which was fantastic but the nicads got tired, they did a fantastic job for me.

Cells are usually one of a few standard sizes and can be supplied with a solder tab spot welded, it wouldn't take much to break the pack open and resolder it with fresh cells. Adequately resealing a diving torch might be a different game.

yeah had a metz pack years ago, pretty sure it changes to green. cheers mike.

The torch was just a screw canister for me the packs were just clipped on inside all good.

Thanks all. I have two NiCad packs and both stay red so although they work - if a little slowly - I suspect they are past their best. I have bought a NiMh pack on fleabay so I will report back as soon as it arrives.

Update; NiMh x2 and new charger, red then green - so assume the old batteries must have been on their last legs.

Now of course I have spent more on batteries than I did on the flash!
