Has the jubilee made you feel more patriotic?

Nope. I would be railing against it for the cost but the olympics make this insignificant. The olympic gits would be the first lot up against the wall in my revolution...

Tbh, I don't really understand why a forum of photographers is slagging off (in some cases) the best national photo-op in ages.

Don't complain about it. Get your camera out and go and shoot something, whether it's pro or anti is up to you; although shooting the anti side is a lot harder! :)

The ikurrina only has two crosses..

Depends on how much tequila you've had.

I only see 2, but I read this description "red field with the white cross of Saint George edged in white superimposed on the diagonal green cross of Saint Patrick, which is superimposed on the diagonal green cross of Saint Andrew."

But it is from wiki...:bonk:

Weird, the Wiki page I see says "A white cross over a green saltire on a red field"

God bless em all. Glad to see them and a great 4 days :) Knickers to the lot of you who think having a president would somehow be so much better.

Judging by how much fraud and outright theft that our mere politicans endulge in , do you honestly think el presidente would be a cheaper alternative than Liz? (who actually generates more money than costs, but again, why let simple facts get in the way of a whinger)

get real. *waves flag and wallows in the awsome regal history this island has*

Weird.

Differing views. For, as I said, THIS one says "red field with the white cross of Saint George edged in white superimposed on the diagonal green cross of Saint Patrick, which is superimposed on the diagonal green cross of Saint Andrew."

What have the monarchy got to do with being a patriot?

In answer to the OP..... No

Once a patriot, always a patriot.

Read the whole op, Tommy.

Exactly. You could argue we may be better off now if we let the Queen run the country rather than the idiots over the last 20 years.

Some people may not like the monarchy, thats fine, but look at how many people do and how many turned out. That is reason enough to end debate about if we should or should not have it.

I have loved seeing flags in peoples gardens, it brightens things up and does make me feel patriotic - I doubt many other countries could match the pomp and ceremony of the weekend.

... but I quite like old buildings, and I'm not keen on people.

Still - without 'em (The Windsors/Saxe-Coburg and Gotha/Schicklegrubers or whatever they want to call 'emselves) , it'd only be a short step to being french I suppose...

Hmm good point,,,,,,,,, three cheers,, hip hip.......

Looking at the images in the papers it seems that the UK has turned red, white and blue, and that the nation has united to celebrate this milestone.

If you were a royalist, has it strengthened your belief in the monarchy?

If you were a republican, has your view changed at all?

If you were apathetic, has your view become more pro-monarchy, pro-republic, or you're still not interested?

Lastly, a bit of a quiz question (not too hard I'm sure) about the union flag.... As you know, it's consists of the cross of St Andrew, the cross of St Patrick and the cross of St George and nothing else. Where else in the world, would you see a flag that consists only of the cross of St Andrew, the cross of St Patrick and the cross of St George and nothing else?

Made me think what a waste of money to broadcast the rubbish for 4.5 hours on the bbc was.

They bring money in, without a monarch we'd have no real history and not much of a tourist draw, unless you like old buildings...

Pretty sure they bring **** all money in to 95% of the country

I believe London generates the most revenue in the UK but has disproportionately less money spent on it. If the Queen helps bring in additional revenue through tourism or by building business relationships abroad, then even if it all this additional money comes into London the rest of us still benefit.

It's been estimated worst case that the Royal Family costs each person in the UK about £4.30 a year (when you include all the indirect costs such as security); this doesn't bother me. I'm also sure I read that the Queen helps bring some form of stability to Parliament because she has the power to give the PM the boot and take over. Perhaps I'm wrong here though, can anyone confirm? If true then obviously there would be uproar unless she had good reason but it would be good to know that what with the idiots you get in politics should they get out of line then there's always a reasonably stable and consistent Monarchy to step in and sort the politicians out.

The Royal Family cost to the country is a drop in the ocean compared to the cost, destruction and embarrassment that our banks have brought on us and yet they are still rewarded handsomely most probably due to their connections with politicians.

The Royal Family may not be perfect but then if Scotland go independent then what do we get? A corrupt, megalomaniac Shrek whose fine dining at the public's expense is clearly showing? Oh goodie.

It puzzles me how the organisers of the last 4 days and the Olympic committee can find all this extra money , seriously.... I thought we were in a recession . People struggling to make does meet and all that!!, unemployment going through the roof, yet multiple millions can be sought for the likes of the jubilee and the Olympics !!!

Why do they want to know about a bunch of Germans anyway... are they planning to surrender to them or collaborate with them ??
:lol::lol:
beat me to it
and on another note it has been very annoying as it has held up the delivery of my lens I bought on Thursday last week it still hasn't arrived and was sent friday 4 pm with parcel force 48.
How thoughtless and selfish of them

for one we won't have nuclear weapons in our country and we won't be ruled by the millionaire old boy school network in London

In answer to the original question, no.
It's just made me hate them even more........

Nuclear weapons are the main thing that's kept us safe and at least the actual firing devices are out at sea and we don't have launch silos dotted around in the UK.

Nuclear energy is much the same unless you think that a bunch of windmills can power heavy industry? Until we have tidal or similar power that can match Nuclear then I don't have a problem with it.

The millionaire old boy school network will simply develop in Edinburgh instead, except they'll have a fraction of global influence that London has.

I was wondering this also about 2 months ago when we were in Baby Gap. Not the cheapest place around yet the queue was literally right out to the main door! Some recession! lol

Geminated parallels eh? lol

I really dont get this, how? The joy on many peoples faces over the weekend, the number of street parties and events, the amount of bunting up, reading about people who have met the queen and say it was an amazing experience. They do give a lot of pleasure to people and the vast majority like them.

Aye, you couldn't move up here for bunting and street parties  There were 9500 street parties in England and 60 in the whole of Scotland, and a third of those were held by the Orange Order....

I didn't realise we were so miserable up here.

I wonder how many disinterested people were happy enough to have the time off work though.

For the Jubilee celebrations all of the money for the events was raised by individual and corporate donations.

We the taxpayer are only paying the ancillaries such as policing.

And how much money has been made through extra food and drink sales, tat bought etc,...

How many people do you think are happy to take time off at Christmas? And out of those how many do you think are church-going Christians?

but isn't Christmas originally a pagan festival and the Christians took it over.

You are just being silly now.

Care to expand on that?

Because you are trying to use an age old tradition in a predominantly Christain country as some form of argument and it will just end up in a silly, waste of time argument about something that will probably never change.

A little like the neds comment earlier, it's just silly. I don't mind, but just don't want to trash the thread either lol

They certainly saved money on the stewarding.........

Nuclear weapons are not the thing keeping us safe and we dont want them in Scotland.
