Has the jubilee made you feel more patriotic?

Looking at the images in the papers it seems that the UK has turned red, white and blue, and that the nation has united to celebrate this milestone.

If you were a royalist, has it strengthened your belief in the monarchy?

If you were a republican, has your view changed at all?

If you were apathetic, has your view become more pro-monarchy, pro-republic, or you're still not interested?

Lastly, a bit of a quiz question (not too hard I'm sure) about the union flag.... As you know, it's consists of the cross of St Andrew, the cross of St Patrick and the cross of St George and nothing else. Where else in the world, would you see a flag that consists only of the cross of St Andrew, the cross of St Patrick and the cross of St George and nothing else?

No

It has strengthened my Republican views by a country mile

Complete waste of cash and taxpayers money. Screw the lot of them, but what really annoys me is the hangers on, as in whoever is 17th in line to the throne etc..... that's just not going to happen, so get out, get a job and stop sponging.

Nope. It's a big waste of money but not as big a waste as the olympics. Not that I've watched any of it.

I'm not a fan of the monarchy particularly nor republicanism. The former is better than having some elected president like Blair. Having an entity which is above party politics and out lasts many of them seems quite a sensible thing to have. Trimmed down monarchy is the lesser evil of many alternatives.

avoided the whole thing like the plague to be honest.

i cant stand the whole two faced-ness of the population.. slagging the country off then next minute singing god save the queen because theyve got 2 free days off on the lash..

You lost me when you said that Blair was president ;)

The wall to wall fawning and grovelling on the BBC gave us a tiny insight into what life must be like in North Korea, except those poor buggers have to put up with it every day.

I enjoyed and was grateful for the extra day off - Does that count?

This sums up my thought too.

I get to work two days on overtime rates, that's all I care about :-)

I really don't mind if loads of people want to have a parade or six, if it cheers them up but I can live quite happily without any Royalty. It bugged me a bit when I turned on the radio today only to hear the same commentary on nearly every BBC channel but I was able to find something else to listen to.
I have watched none of the programming, read none of the papers and participated in none of the events and I'm happy to have missed it.

Well I like a good parade and marching band so hoots to you all.

Im with you,and i think they are good value for money.Compared to what the government cost they are the bargain of the century, not to mention how much we pour into europe every year.

No!.......been quite amusing for me though having had many French people ask me questions about the Royals.

My reply being "haven't a clue"...."check em out on google".

Received by a look of horror and disbelief :D :D

Why do they want to know about a bunch of Germans anyway... are they planning to surrender to them or collaborate with them ??

Was there a jubilee on?
What time was that on, must've missed it ;)
ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzz.......

It did occur to me that the only 'feel good factor' we have had in the last two years was down to the Wedding and Jubilee, so I guess the Royals are doing their bit to help us in our times of woe.

However, whilst I don't have a problem with the celebrations whether or not I agree with them, I found the BBC to be about the most frustrating pile of old s****. Made me feel like I was supposed to be some serf doffing my cap and eager to demonstrate my devotion and reverence to 'Her Majesty' - it was about the biggest turn off I could have imagined, which is a shame as this was a historic occasion whatever I may have thought before those idiots spoiled it completely!

I think we should row down a river in Germany just to wind them up!

Again, waste of money the lot of it. Not a big fan of the royal Family.

Dont get me started on the Olympics!!!!! Complete and utter money pit that could have been put to better use.

Strangely enough, I have to agree!

They bring money in, without a monarch we'd have no real history and not much of a tourist draw, unless you like old buildings...

I'll climb on your wagon too, it hasn't made me any more 'patriotic' or anything else, my feelings remain the same, pro-royal because the alternatives are worse and as expensive, but I do like a good old knees up [unless it has the word Olympic attached to it]

17th in line don't get anything from the civil list. In fact, I'm not sure anyone but the Queen does.

From next year, she'll be paid out of the profits from the Crown Estates anyway.

awwww, don't go spoiling a good old moan with facts now, it's only because its work again tomorrow after a long weekend :naughty: :p

I thoroughly enjoyed it but then I have always been quite patriotic and pro royals anyway. It was good to see so many people enjoying themselves despite the weather and Britain certainly knows how to put on a good show. The royals are probably the best value attraction for this country too.

... but I quite like old buildings, and I'm not keen on people.

Still - without 'em (The Windsors/Saxe-Coburg and Gotha/Schicklegrubers or whatever they want to call 'emselves) , it'd only be a short step to being french I suppose...

Wherever the White Ensign is flown, typically British Warships and shore establishments.

I'm a patriot... just not a monarchist.

What has royalty got to do with love of, and indeed loyalty to, your country?

No. Because the ensign features more than the 3 crosses. It also includes a field of colour. I am talking about a flag that (like the union flag) only features the 3 crosses.

I give up and don't really want to troll the internet to find out (if it's even possible).

EDIT: Unless you are talking about the ikurrina flag but that's the wrong colours.

As is often the case the media have gone overboard. It is still getting debated and dissected on the radio this morning. Some folk have said it was the four best days of their life !!

I am a patriot and I don't need a monarchy, or a government for that matter, to make me one.

Goodness knows but lots have been glued to the tv watching the documentries on the RF.

They are in awe of a country having a Monarch.....many of them feel similar about Monaco with it's Prince etc
