Has the British Olympic Cycling Success.....

To be quite honest I don't think Froome has ever looked like a serious contender. Having done the Tour and the olympics it's hardly surprising he has less in his legs though!

Agreed. But if he's going to do anything it has to be today.

Todays stage was a complete beast.. dont think I have ever seen riders going so slow and tired at times they looked like they going to wobble off
I wish the idiot spectators would stop running alongside them screeching non stop

It was brutal. But great viewing!

For those with live access, today's stage is looking very interesting indeed.....

I was following it a bit on Twitter. Sounds like good viewing!

I won't say what happened because I think some watch highlights later, but I will say someone in particular was VERY impressive. An awesome performance.

Last proper day today, and it should be a good one. There are 5 climbs including the one to the finish line. It's been an interesting race and more interesting than this year's Tour. Shame that Froome was burnt out after the Tour and Olympics, and no one can deny that Purito and Contador have been very entertaining.

Roll on Il Giro!

I think things could of been very different if Froome had not been working for Bradley for most of the season... he certainly looked to be a spent force from the halfway stage

I dont see him taking the team leader position from Wiggins any time soon though
on a different note just watched the new documentary about Sky Pro cycling and what a good program showing all the background nitty gritty that goes on
looking forward to next weeks episode

Sounds interesting. Can't imagine it being shown out here though. I see that Eurosport (International) have daily live coverage of the Tour of Britain, so I'll probably be following that next week.

The Sky Tv program about Sky racing is really good 6 part series about the season leading into the tour and this week it showed them winter training in Tenerife and Majorca plus the early season races
they even take there own mattresses and bed sheets no matter what Hotel they stay in the team costs 15 million a year to operate
and the whole team consists of 60 on the payroll

the program leaves you in no doubt who is team leader... and Dave Brailsford is scathing in his views towards drug cheats

I am sure it will be shown all over in the not too distant future

Another brutal end to a stage. Normally il Giro has the reputation for throwing tough stages at the riders, but this Vuelta.....

And I'm already salivating at the thought of Wiggins v Contador next July in France.

Think you cursed it with that sudden spate of crashes

Looks like it. That's what happen when you mix these nobody teams with the pros!

That was like watching women's professional football!
Can't say I'm incentivised to watch more.

Not quite sure what that's supposed to mean but into the peak district today. Got some cat 1 climbs and going to be nice and greasy with a bit of rain.. Rather them than me

It just looked very amateur. I don't like seeing guys who are little more than club riders being mixed in with the pros. That ride into the final km with the string of crashes was a joke. Ironic that the biggest of all was caused by Cavendish though!
Sky's plans for 2013 are going to be very interesting. Froome could have won Le Tour this year and there's no way he'll be playing second fiddle to Wiggins again. How's Brailsford going to sort that one out?

Did cav cause it? Last I saw there was no accurate video of what exactly happened.

But yes I agree about sky, they have a good bunch of talented riders and it's going to be hard to sort a pecking order.

Not quite sure how you can attribute that crash to Cavendish. I also think given the number of riders, the narrowness of the roads where crashes occurred, and the steepness of the verges that some crashes were virtually unavoidable.

further to todays stage... Mark Cavendish threw it away with what I believe to be gross over confidence
his sky team gave him a great lead out train and he was perfectly poised to swoop in 2nd place at about 600mtrs when he suddenly downed tools and dropped back about 3 places into about 5th place (from 2nd) then started to kick again leaving himself far too much to do

I really think he completely lost the plot for a moment.. I actually thought his chain had come off - then when he started to kick again I was convinced he had a bike problem

but as he was crossing the finish line in 2nd place his face told you he had dropped a clanger he looked furious

later he said that there was a dip in the road so he was saving himself for the extra kick???

well in my opinion (not worth much) he totally screwed up and threw away the stage
I have watched the replay over and over and cannot get my head round what he was playing at

I would dare bet he never downs tools like that again - his lead out rider kept looking back with bewilderment at what was going on

Well that couldn't have been easier for you know who. I won't say who for those who'll be watching the highlights later!

dont highlight the text if you dont want to know..

sky seem to have gotten their act together now, easy sprints for cav.. have to admit it hate to have ridden with the roads that wet

I was at the finish of KOM3 today. Was very cool to see all the faces fly by but I was surprised how broken up the field was. I also heard that cavendish was dropped and Wiggo actually turned around to meet him and pace him back up a little although I suspect he was keen to lose the GC jersey so he could make the most of the rainbow stripes.

I'm looking forward to the highlights later to piece together what I saw and heard with the full race.

I'll probably be chastised for it on a photography forum but I didn't actually take my camera so I wasn't watching the race pass by through the lens of a camera.

I did take a couple of snaps on instagram of the summit and the helicopter passing by but none of the riders.

The popularity of it was incredible. There were hundreds of cars lining the roads on my approach just off the course, more on the course, and tonnes who'd travelled there by bike. It certainly made the wait for their arrival pass quickly with so much gear to drool over!

I think Wiggo was pretty disrespectful to both the race organisers and to the team mates who have worked endlessly for him this year

I really think it is very unprofessional to ride back the other way looking for Cavendish Laughing and joking with all and sundry
when Cav is an out and out sprinter not a GC rider

Bloody hell! I had it on live on Eurosport as background so didn't notice any of that! Now I wish I'd paid attention.

Do you not think he was asked to go back over radio? Or maybe he was thinking of the team trying to get cav back up the order?

Well considering there is no radio contact with the team cars according to Ned Boulton and I dont believe for one minute that Dave Brailsford told Bradley to go back for Cav
who last week stated his desire to leave Sky pro cycling next season
so I think it rather implausible that Dave Brailsford would sacrifice the entire team with such a stunt
the cameras were riding along with Brad going back for Cav and he was joling about him having too bigger breakfast with not being able to keep up etc

and Cav is a sprinter and one day specialist not a GC rider and never has been so in effect what happened today has effectively put sky out of the race bar one rider who is 27 seconds down

having watched stage races for the best part of 30 years that is the first time I have seen a rider go in the opposite direction to the peliton

dont get me wrong what the Sky team have done is nothing short of sensational this year but I think they have shown disrespect to all involved by doing this
