Has photography changed the way you see the world?

No
I went out for a walk in the woods this morning to try and learn a bit about my camera (newbie) and realised when I got home that I'm now walking around thinking "I wonder if that will look good" and kind of seeing everything as a photo potential, eyeing things up with a composition in mind, even at work or out in the car.

Does it eventually become subconscious? Has photography changed the way you see things around you?

for me it has ..
the wife now hates me driving as im always looking for wildlife or a landscape that would work..

so its a yes from me

When walking around I see everything as photo compositions!

Yes. Photography for me has not just changed the way I see the world in terms of seeing everything as possible pictures, but its also changed my outlook on life on a more philosophical level. Ive learnt to see beauty in ordinary and ugly situations and I now have an enthusiasm and curiousity for so many subjects as a result of photography. :)

Has it? Hmmmm.... yes, I think so, more now than during any other spells of camera ownership, I look at life 'thru a lens'. I find myself looking and perfectly ordinary stuff and wondering if I could make a good picture from it. But is it the camera or he company I keep? I would definately say that since joining this forum and being regularly in contact with like minded people that my view of my photography and what I can achieve with it has changed dramatically and thus I spend more time looking for 'that' shot anyway. Probably a combination of both, but the short answer is yes, one way or another. ;)

 definitely, when we're out in the car and my partner's driving he knows that when I turn my head sharply I've seen a photo opportunity and not a sales shop or another bad driver.

Sometimes....

yep

Sometimes it does.

Still doesn't make reading the bank or credit card statement any easier, but when out and about, yes.

put it this way, when i ask my hubby to pull over and stop the car, it aint for the kinky stuff!! LOL

I'm certainly more of a danger on the road these days, breaking suddenly to check out a great cloud/light/building or combination of all three. Living in the city though it's not easy to just pull over, grab camera, leap out, set up tripod and compose shot. Even missing out the tripod step it's difficult.

I do think that I pay more attention to light then I did before. Now its not just a bright day or changeable weather it's architectural shots and moody landscapes!

Yes but what changed it more for me was reading "Drawing on the right side of the brain" and "Drawing on the artist within". I learnt why people like the pictures that they do.

Yes it definitely has. Not only do I now see compositions I never would have before (usually when I don't have the camera with me, obviously!) I really notice the changing light conditions, especially this time of year. I read a book by a guy who taught himself to gauge the colour temperature without meters etc & it seems to have rubbed off!

Definitely! I started getting into photography more when I started Scrapbooking (see Blog) wanting to capture all those good moments and now I've always got my camera with me and looking for something to take piccies of.

Most people just look at the world - photographers see the world. That's what makes you a photographer.

Easy answer Yes, I take much more notice of thing around me now.

I must admit I see things in a different way know, there have been a number of occassions whilst driving where I have thought that the view would make a nice image, must remember to keep a camera in the car. :bang:

defiantly see things in a different way. I kinda look at things and think.."hmm..that'll make a nice photo" but when that does happen, i haven't got my camera with me. So its more or less 99% of the time. I only take my camera to 'special events' where i know i want to take photos and will take some.

:)

Most definately, and totally agree that this vision we have as photographers is not compatible with good driving :bonk: :bonk:

Until recently I didn't see why people who claim they are a Photographer to the Car Insurance business got stung by a massive premium. It is one of the things that's holding me back from making the steps to go semi-pro. :rules:

Most definitely. I'm new to photography only got into it this year but I see photo opportunities everywhere I go. I have such a passion for taking photographs and get excited when I see something I think would make a good pic which happens all the time:)

sure has every time I go out i think that would make a good pic, or if that wasn't there and the lighting was better that would look good.
am I turning into an anorak????

Being new to photography it is changed the way I see things around me. I am not very creative or artistic so have to really take my time with all aspects of photography this has made me look and think about what is going around me.

am I turning into an anorak????

 If you are just make sure it's brown or green :D

I do tend to view things as potential shots. It drives my family crazy but I think it's even rubbing off on them now because if there's a gorgeous sunset or lovely light etc they'll say to me "oo that'd make a good picture". Ok so they say it with mockery in their voices  but at least they're noticing things;)

I can honestly say that in a creative sense ..... No! :p

Ive always been aware that I see things differently to some people and photography is merely my way to try and portray that.

OOh! I does tell a lie
I see birds as potential picture now, where I didnt before but, again no ...I dont put that down to my growing interest in photography ... I just blame CT! :D

Makes me think of the expression, 'what came first the chicken or the egg'

... I do see everything as it is and I enjoy the fact that I can capture that with my camera, thats why I love Photography.

But without Photography I couldn't see that moment frozen, so photography has indeed added to my viewer experience and therefore changed the way I see the world.

Yes.

Yes now I see everything as photos I want but cant seem to get I also find my self looking at photo adverts and being critical Yesterday there was one in mothercare and I remembered reading about not cropping limbs and bits of fingers off before I wouldnt have noticed
Bob :help:

Photography is definitely permanently in the forefront of my mind, I am always looking for photo ops.

It has however led to much frustration as I am always seeing shots when I am driving around or walking with my son and never have the time, camera etc to take them.

It's hard to remember life before being interested in photography so I can't recall if it changed the way I view things

But yes, I'm always on the look-out with a photo in mind

One of my fav to-do's when out & about (not with a camera especially) is when I find other togs setting up for a shot, I stand near them to see if I can 'see' what they are hoping to capture - often I can't which means [firmly IMO]
a) I don't get it - which would be my fault, or
b) it ain't worth shooting

Absolutely: It's driving the wife mad but she prefers it to, see that roof......i did that

I drive my girlfriend mad with carrying my camera everywhere & am always on the lookout for photo opps - she's even started making the odd photography joke every now & again

Photography didn't change the way I see the world, it changed the way I see myself. With my camera I realized it was OK to see things in my own way and to find something valuable where someone else might not. Eventually I came to see it as a responsibilty to record the world through my own set of experiences and filters, to document what I find important or beautiful.

Yes, it has for me. My wife only commented a few days ago that, beofre I started shooting again, I hardly ever looked above shop window level when walking around town. Now I look at the levels above the windows, into the trees, in the hedgerows and think "Hmm...that may make a good shot!"

:)

It's ben so long since I started doing this I'd quite forgotten, its a bit like driving through a town coming out the other side and not being able to remember which way you came.

Thanks for the reminder.

James

i got into birdwatching and back into photography at the same time,
had never seen a kingfisher or a barn owl before to name a few
highlight was laying in a field as a barn owl flew past 10feet away 3 foot of the ground
and i didnt spook it amazing

Yes. Without a doubt.

I now walk round looking at everything as a potential photo opportunity.

Especially in cities, looking up all the time at the buildings. Details in things, textures, etc.

A definite yes from me!

Anth

Photography has made a huge difference in the way I see the world. I try to make ever minute of the day last (when not at work ;) ) as time is so precious. Im always looking up at the detail on buildings in town when everyone else's is face down.
Looking at how other photographers have captured moments in time in there own style of compostion with all different genres of photography, ie wildlife, sport and culture. This makes me appreciate my world alot more and has helped also to create my own style of photograph.
