While browsing some of the great photos I see on TP recently two posted photos (links below) good photos but other members have remarked about something in the photos which I can't see in the shadows. 1st linked photo Gary is asking about a bridge which he can obviously see. I cannot see this bridge unless I open the pic up in photoshop and whack the levels right up, destroying the photo in the process. A similar case on the second link, Markevan suggests cloning out trailers, I can't see anything in the dark area that would resemble a trailer unless again I whack the levels up in photoshop and ruining the photo.
My monitor is a TFT Samsung Synchmaster 710N, the software that came with it is no longer any use as it wont work with Vista 64bit, still no sign of them updating it yet. The brightness levels on my monitor is currently at 97% Contrast is high too.
To me everything else looks fine on screen but it confuses me when Folk talk about something in a photo that I can't see on mine, also on photos I've posted here and elsewhere and comments are suggesting more saturation/contrast, if I do that then it looks overcooked on my screen.
I've used Adobe Gamma to calibrate the monitor best as I can, I had considered a hardware calibrator ie; spyderpro but have read it can be a hit or a miss on tft screens.
Is it time for me to consider another monitor?
