Above.

I was reading the other day that last weekend's New Year special of Mrs Brown's Boys has been criticised for being well, not very funny.. After about 10 years has the Mrs Brown's Boys comedy series had its day and is it time for Brendan O'Carroll to stop cross dressing as "Mammy"?

I think it has run its course and I say that as someone who when it first came to UK TV couldn't watch a whole episode in one go because it made me laugh so much. (I was recovering from having had a kidney removed at the time)

Definitely past it's best.

Having lived in the republic of Ireland for 5 years its amazing how true to Irish life it was at first
It's now gone too far away from the original
So.It's definitely past it's best

IMO Mrs. Brown,s boys was rubbish from day one along with Last of the summer wine.
IMO wrong to lump LotSW in with it, as Summer Wine was a whimsical innocent look at life and though it had its "groans' it unlike oh so many comics/comic storytelling it never resorted to swearing 'for laughs'.

Would I watch repeats now, unlikely because I probably won't find it as amusing as it was at that time!

I watched a couple several years ago, to see what all the fuss was about,
I didn't find it funny ..

I've been to a few live shows, it was then it was at it's best in my opinion. When they fluffed their lines, it was hilarious. As soon as it hit the screens, it was the begining of a slippery slope.

Not exactly only Fools & Horses standard is it? I've never watched a whole show, bit's here & there, but there's generally something else much more entertaining to watch.

I'm living in the R.O.I 46 years and I never found anything relatable in that s**t show. Self 'Paddy whackery' aimed at the UK market is what it always seemed to me, but looks like most detest it as much as I do. Not sure who it's really aimed at tbh

Like a couple of posters said in here, I have dipped my toes in by watching a couple of episodes when it first started but it just simply did not gel on me where I did not find it humourous - and this is coming out of me who enjoyed Miranda. :D

I found it funny in the past ,but it’s suffered from a lot of the funnier actors leaving ,the ones whose giggles made me giggle . And it’s fast becoming a one man show I didn’t find anything interesting about the two xmas shows .. Brendan needs to have a major re.think over scripting

I'll probably cop major heat for this but apart from the Batman and Robin episode OFAH was massively overrated IMO.

When people mention Only fools ... I feel like saying "Weren't no Faulty Towers were it?" tbh ...

Mildly enjoyed the show but I oft felt I only watched it because others did [my dad used to find it hilarious and it was oft talked about in school]

I have watched quite a few episodes, but it has been going downhill for a long time. The xmas episodes proved it should now be taken off air.

I think that’s true of most shows though, it’s only really relatable to the generation it was first viewed by, then it’s just nostalgia that future people just can’t appreciate. I used to love cheesy American sitcoms like friends, frasier, everyone loves Raymond etc, and if I didn’t have the family and work commitments I do now I’d happily sit and watch them all day long now, but I can guarantee if I put my kids in front of it they’d laugh at some and enjoy parts, but they wouldn’t have the connections to them that I do, and their kids will more than likely feel the same distain for the shows that people have commented on here for other classics.

its allways been complete dog s***

There have been a lot of negatives regarding Mrs Brown's Boys. What do people watch now to get their comedy kicks. What programmes are really funny?

None these days , the really funny acts have either died or faded away due to new age thinking .. ,Freddie Starr ,Jim Davidson , are just a couple who make me cry laughing and plenty more in the wings .. British comedy is/was based on sex and mild racism jokes both frowned upon these days on stage or t.v ,but in the right context really funny .. peter Cooke and Dudley Moore pushed the boundaries with there derek and Clive act and records .
As a nation we have lost our sense of humour that made us British and different to other nations

I couldn't agree more Jeff.

Nothing on the likes of BBC.
There are far too many professional victims waiting to be offended by anything these days.

I feel your offence.

I’d write a letter to Nadine if I were you.

I used to watch Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of crisps, but after about 5 seasons it became crap... Especially when they killed off Ralf Little's character (eaten by a Shark? WTF?!)

It seems to be all reality programmes these days, rather than comedy or variety type shows, certainly on main stream. TV.
What is find funny is the way some people lap these up ...

Can’t wait to watch The Apprentice this year…

Fantastic for laughs and cringes.

There's plenty out there albeit the best seems to be on sky or netflix/prime.

Breeders (on sky) is very funny.

Some of us genuinely think it's utter sh*te ... I love a broad range of comedy, from the UK office to Always sunny in Phillidelphia and many in between. I grew up watching UK and Irish comedy that pushed the boundaries - much like the stuff Jeff mentions and right up to the likes of The Fast Show, Harry Enfield and chums, The league of gentlemen etc ..

I am about as hard to 'offend' as you'll get. But sometimes I just have to call something as I see it, and this for me at least, is pure muck.

The last good "reality" programme I watched was "Wakey Wakey Campers" on Channel 4 about 15 years ago.. But I'm a fan of what I call "Hi De Hi" Holiday camps from way back, places like Butlins etc.
