"After reading through the threads regarding these - I decided that I was going to ask them out right....

ME:

I'm looking into getting/purchasing a Nikon D700 & noticed that you are selling them currently for £1599.. I am enquiring if the warranty card/slip has Nikon UK stamped/printed upon it... I would appreciate if you could confirm.

Many thanks

HDEW:

No as these come with an international warranty, they are exactly like nikon uk sell , except they are cheaper and we dont have to give something away free to get people to purchase as we charge a reasonable cost, please dont be alarmed by buying an imported cameras as we do use nikon agent in the uk to fix if there is any problems

Many thanks for the reply.... I've brought non Uk purchases before so buying from you isn't a problem to me - Its piece of mind really knowing before I purchase that's all - & just out of curiousity which Nikon agent do you use if there was ever a problem with the camera.. Would it be covered by the warranty or would I have to "cough up" for repairs or any excess?
Cheers
Steve

We use johnstons in glasgow, and yes it is covered warranty regards

other than that its buy 2nd hand with no come back.

I'd doubt in all seriousness that anyone will have received a D700 from BestBuy at that price...

That'll probably end up at around £1500 by the time shipping, VAT and import duty are added and you'd have zero warranty, unless you fancied shipping it back to the states and hoping Nikon USA would honour the warranty....

I know a few people who have bought from hdew including myself ( canon ) and not had any problems but I don't know of anyone who has had to get anything repaired though.

They have been around for a few years and not heard any bad reports

I bought a Nikon 70-300 f2.8 VR II off them last week...arrived yesterday. It cost me £1449.99 delivered, sure I have seen one sell on here for £1450 used.

Being a lens it obviously has an Intl Manufacturers Warranty so I don't see why you wouldn't buy from them. They are grey imports obviously. I like the fact they are a UK based company, they explained they recommend/use that Scottish firm for any warranty work as they find them the best of all the Nikon approves repair centres in the UK. Obviously I can use anyone I want if god forbid I need to though.

They have both a .co.uk and a .com domain. The former is for domestic UK buyers and has slightly better prices.

As I said earlier on another thread I have used them for some Canon items and found they gave good service, delivered when they said they would and the prices were the best on the internet.

I have no experience of their after sales service but they did give me 3 different locations that they use who are approved Canon repair centre's.

I would add a small point that I found out when pricing around and that is that HDEW is just one of their "fascia's" The are also connected with for example Rob's Camera store (on eBay) and a couple of others....this is nothing to be alarmed about as this practice is far from unique on-line (lots of holiday companies do it).

I suppose the reason I mention it is to reassure you that I spent a lot of time verifying them as a good source, I rejected most of the other so called "importers with a UK office"

I think the most reassuring aspect of their service is you can go an collect in person, so at least you can check everything is present and correct before handing over the cash, and if it goes wrong you know where they are :)

:suspect: You do mean a Nikon 70-200 VR II dont you....

How exactly are warranties arranged ? Do you get some sort of warranty card? Or do you just send to them to be fixed and they send on to the repair centre ?

Lets say something fails, HDEW are no longer around, I'm guessing you have no warranty ?

the same way as most things, also they have been round for 20 odd years, but if you use your credit card your covered for 2 years by that anyway,
but when mine comes i will be spaeking to nikon anyway to see of its covered under my nps,

its no different whan i have brought thins from bi stores on line it has to be sent back to them so they can send it to the manafacturer,(in the first year)

True enough, I was just comparing it to a manufacturer warranty - it would be covered direct so if the retailer disappeared you still have a warranty.
Naturally you pay for this in the retail price though!

Will investigate warranty via credit card.

i think even if it did o bust its cover under the warrentylook here.
