I always take my etc everywhere with me....true thought the second etc does stay at home.

And to add to Ben's list of things of why the listing may been seen as dodgy, the link at the bottom of the listing to view there other items goes to an account of a totally different EBay member in the USA, who incidentally is no longer a member.

There are enough warning signs there to say something may be amiss, buyer beware as the saying goes

I wouldn't immediately assume that this was stolen goods, but there is a fair probability. Would be interested to hear an explanation as to why none of the accessories are included.

Hmmmm........very true, hadn't seen that. Although if you click on the 'sellers other items' under seller info on the top right, it does take you to the sellers other available items.

I lost all faith in ebay ever since last year when they tried taking out a £950 payment from my paypal account as "ebay fees for ebay Hong Kong" and then I had to spend hours cancelling my funding to paypal (direct debit from my bank account and a credit card) - and then paypal had the cheek to actually investigate that I actually didn't owe £950 to ebay HK as ebay fees until they could establish that my paypal had been hacked in to. The whole experience left a really bad taste in my mouth despite having used ebay for several years previously, but I'm unlikely to use them again.

Does seem a bit dodgy, but as said, innocent until proven guilty i feel, especially considering her feedback and rating.

I am sure when I clicked 'View other items' earlier I got nothing, even in 'completed listings'.

Strange

Aha! Found out why - Keith had spotted it. When you click 'other auctions' in the listing itself it takes you to someone elses ebay.

Weird.

I noticed that too. The rest *could* be easily explained away, but a QR plate as well? No chance!:cuckoo:

Why? my cameras and lenses (most) have QR plates attached  ... If I dropped dead tomorrow and family were to sell them on? they wouldn't have a clue what a QR plate was ....

Maybe, but he's selling for a "friend", in which case (bearing in mind "you" have a 5D II) would you leave the QR plate attached?

Asked him if I could collect

So Ive replied

Thanks for the consideration, but I get free diesel with my company car. And Im happy to spend the time. Ive got the cash here so it would actually take longer for me to go and deposit it in the bank first!

If it looks like a duck, and walks like a duck...........................................

Well it seems the QR plate is in good working order! ;)

Whoever owned it can't have been that serious a photographer with that lens.

I own that lens and there is nothing wrong with it that I can find, it take bl**dy good shots I think especially at lifesize.
As other have said it doesn't all look straight to me either. "Stage exit left even"

It's interesting the seller is publishing their replies to the 'stolen' queries. But here is one of the seller's replies:
"HI NO IT IS NOT STOLEN DO YOU THINK I WOULD PUT ON EBAY IF IT WAS???"

Yes, of course, why not. If genuine, it is a bit daft of their friend to sell it like this, with tripod plate, no charger (or cables etc) and with a lens.

Q: Alright mate, where abouts in sheffield are you? Any chance i could view the camera before purchasing?
A: HI SORRY NO VIEW DUE TO WORK COMMITMENTS

Ehh????

NO COLLECTION - for cash!
NO VIEWING

must be a way of advising eBay to watch this one ? or do they care !

They do indeed care.

'Report Item' button under 'Other Item Info' at just below where the sellers details are...

This is a constant fear for me...my better half has no idea what all my gear is worth...so if I were to drop dead tonight someone would get a VERY good deal.

Haven't you guys got anything better to do?
Surely as with all ebay sales and anything bought privately, its 'caveat emptor' - let the buyer beware - if you aren't planning on buying the bloody thing walk on by !!!

Actually, I think the original purpose of this thread is quite commendable...

Camera gear gets nicked all the time...it's portable and valuable...and thinking about Focus, lots of people like to show off by slinging it over their shoulder.

When something gets nicked, the first thing the police do is say to look out for ebay/local pawn shops and camera shops... I think what the OP was trying to do here is alert anyone who's had a 5Dmk2 pinched from their tripod, that there is one up on ebay...

 well done to them for being a nice guy...and trying to help someone out

hear hear

That still wouldn't make it stolen ;)

i know a fella who left a really good camera in a phonebox in sheffield, i think he said it was a 5d, he told me this last september ya see and my memories not too good...trying to get in touch with him

would make him a plonker for leaving it there :)

this is OT, I know, but I had an enclosed twin axle trailer stolen from our drive, it was well off the road and out of sight so it was known to be there rather than opportunist. anyway, a week later it turned up on ebay.
we 100% knew it was ours as we had bolted some extra brackets into it which were also shown in the picture.
We told the police who said they'd follow it up, and told me not to bid or 'win' the item.

the item sold (for a good price tbh!) to some dude in the isle of man who paid by BT
The police did go to his house, but the trailer (obviously) wasn't there. so he wasn't charged.

To the original point, I do agree, the ad is seriously dodgy, and should I have been the owner of said items, I'd be over the moon it was brought to my attention.

I would also then win the item (no matter how much it cost), pay for it, receive it, then claim all the money back through paypal using my crime number.

Agreed ,the original intention of the thread was very commendable, but this is actually degenerating into slander and speculation - not all stuff on Ebay is knicked. If its of dubious provenance the best thing to do is walk way from it ,not debate its origin.

Anyone stupid enough to sell a quite easily identifable combo like this on Ebay deserves all they get -similarly anyone buying it deserves the same.

Ahhh. You're that guy who turns the other way when someone gets beaten up in the street, aren't you...:nono:

No I'm the person who if he see a crime in process does something about it- not the sort of person who talks about and debates whether an item is stolen or not.
Frankly if you've got little better to do, I feel a bit sorry for you as you need to get out more. Using such an analogy about me in such a glib fashion is at the very least inflammatory and not really appreciated - anyone can be a keyboard warrior and I'll tell you now you wouldnt be doing it to my face !

Bit below the belt, that comment

Trencheel303 - have you taken the positive action you seem to be advocating and reported it to both ebay and the local police yet ??

Right, hopefully you two are back in the classroom now. If you want to carry on with this take it round the back of the bike sheds when lessons are finished.

Understand? :)

Understand that no one posts an analogy about me like that and gets away with it!

How on earth did you manage to hide that info from her? Mine knows to the penny how much mine's all worth :bonk:
