Has anyone ever used one of these

I can see the logic behind the idea, but i just wonder if it is more of a gimmick than it is really useful:shrug:

I've used the same principal by holding the camera out on a neckstrap and using live view. The tension is a big help for steadiness. Probably about as effective (or maybe not quite as) as using a mononpod.

I might have to get one too try it out. Could be really useful clipped to the belt for steady focussing for handheld macro.

Probably be more practical combined with a manfrotto QR adapter since I already have plates for that.

Years ago (with a film camera) I used ¼ whit or UNC eye bolt and a bit of string to do the same job, I could hand hold about 1 stop slower shutter speed. Now I just up the ISO to keep the speed up.

Seen afew home made variations of it, have a look here the 'step and pull' one is simple enough you could make one in the 1st post with one of those cable tidy cables that retracts wiht a spring.

All that essentially is is a 3/8" bolt and a piece of string, with a £17.95 mark-up.....
