Has anyone ever used an MR9 adaptor?

Hi all,

I appear to have just bought a mint looking Yashica 124-G TLR (need to stay away from temptation!).

I realise the battery is only for the meter but has anyone had any experience with an MR-9 adaptor? I've seen both the genuine adapters with voltage drop down built in and the non-functional (but described the same) version which is basically just a spacer. I normally use a light meter app on my iPhone but as it has one built in I'm thinking I'd rather use it.

Cheers

I bought one a while ago for the meter in my Olympus OM1. All I can say is that it appears to meter correctly. I seem to remember that it was exorbitantly expensive for a tiny item. I think I would attempt to make an alternative using a Schottky diode myself, given current circumstances today.

Thanks for that. I've seen that they're not exactly cheap hence possibly sticking with the iPhone app instead :0)

Why not use a Wein cell battery? It'll need replacing more often than an LR/SR44 but they cost next to nothing from Boots (sold as hearing aid batteries).

Thanks. I've used the Wein cell before in previous cameras and didn't realise Boots still stocked them on the shelf. However, the camera's just arrived and already has a PX625a (1.5v) battery so although the meter's off I can see it's functioning which is enough and the rest of the camera/case is ridiculously mint!

I have the expensive adaptor in my Nikkormat, and it works as it should, but in all honesty I don't really use it much. Probably cost as much as the camera is worth!! I justified it to myself on the basis I'd be able to use it in other cameras if I needed to, but I don't actually own any other cameras that need it (maybe will one day though).

Thanks for the information about the adaptor. Unfortunately I've just had to list the 124-G in the classifieds here due to an unexpected repair bill so I won't be buying an MR9 after all.

Cheers
Steve
