So... Saturday... Lovely sunny day... All things that needed doing, done... free afternoon... an opportunity to take some piccies I have wanted to for a while - sorted camera bag previous evening with gear the I needed, camera batteries on charge...

All to plan - 45 miles to the location - then a 15 min walk... perfect - late afternoon sun in a just the right place... sort the gear to get set up... turn camera on... and a sudden reaslisation that the batteries are sitting nice and snug in their warm and cosy battery charger... Ggggggrrrrrrrr :bonk: :bonk: :bonk: :'( :bang:

Nightmare.... Almost done that, but not quite, although I have a couple of spares in my bag which don't leave it for that very reason.

Btw, whats a batter charger? Is this some new cake mix sport I dont know about? Sounds messy :woot: :coat:

I think that most of us have forgotten batteries or memory cards at least once

PPPPP ;)

Look about 4 threads down ;)

Or set off from Suffolk and drive all the up to Norfolk for late evening sunset shots only to open the boot and recall leaning tripod by front door... not only that, fellow tog with full brain capacity getting great shots :bang:

As above always have a couple left inbag.

Also have a laminated check list for official use with chinagraph pencil which is all checked off the night before.

My best one was when i went on location with my digi, photographing buildings on long exposures so needed my tripod. When i got to the location i realised that i had left the quick release plate on my film camera at home....how gutted.

Or not packing a lens cloth and finding the lens with grease smudges on it!

that's what a tshirt is for :)

batteries and memory cards are cheap now, maybe consider buying an extra spare of each (doesn't have to be an expensive memory card or anything, hopefully you'll rarely / never have to use it!) and keep them in a small pocket in your bag? will be a lot of peace of mind for £10-15 imo...

My usual is leaving the CF cards in the card reader at home :bang: how many times i did that was just unbelivable so then i took one of my 2gb cards and stuck it in the boot of my car its still there now and ive never forgoton my cards since but its there for WHEN (not if) i do it again:shake:

Got 2 batteries at the mo - but the cam is a 5D 2 - originals are a bit like hens teeth at the mo (and cost a stupid amount).

I've forgotten all of my CF cards before - but only realised after spending about 15 minutes levelling the tripod and getting ready to take a string of shots for a pano

Yes. Done that.

Won't happen again though. Not many of my cameras use batteries and those that do will still work without them (other than metering).

The second time I went out with my camera I got up before dawn to take pictures of the sun rising over the Manhattan skyline. Spent over an hour taking poictures working quickly to get the most from the light, not reviewing pictures as I thought I'd do it later and the New Jersey side isnt the best of areas as no-one else there at that time of day. Saturday morning all the cruise ships come in so got some pictures of them with the statue of liberty and the city skyline in the background. Got home, no memory card in the camera - Yes its now set so the shutter wont fire without a memory card. I've not been able to bring myself round to going back to do it again.

I have forgotton all my memory cards before, ended up buying a new one at Jessops for a ridiculous price, learnt my lesson.

My wife borrowed my Nikon F601 last weekend. When she came home she said that she thought something was wrong as the frame counter had got up to 63.

I opened it up and the film tab was still waiting to be taken up onto the spool.

The joys of mis-loaded film. My youngest daughter several times picked up one of my cameras - its amazing how quickly a 36 shot film goes when a kid has their finger pressed hard on the shutter and the cam is set with a ye old motor drive... 36 shots of her feet...

leaving for an event, unpacking (180 miles from home) and forgetting my charger.
fortunately two previously charged batteries saw me through the night

I regularly seem to leave the quick release plate at home... :(

The other one is using the same battery for a couple of trips, then going out without a spare (packing light) and it running out within 5 minutes... That reminds me, I need to charge the one up that did that last night...

I have an 'In Car Ritual' and it is usually the last thing I do before I get in the drivers seat.

1. check camera is present in the bag
2. check battery is present in camera
3. check memory card is present in camera

I learned this is necessery in order to have an enjoyable photogrpahy experience.

:D

I went to a race in France a few years ago, one of my first big jobs for a couple of magazines. Got there from Suffolk, and realised the battery for my D2h was in the charger in my bedroom at home... d'oh! Luckily I had a backup camera, and manged to do just as good a job.

Also booked the wrong day for the ferry, but they let us on with no extra charge!

done the memory card left in the memory card reader thing too :(

That's where the grease came from!

use the side of your tshirt, tends to have less dirt on it ;)

one of my friends, who wishes to remain nameless, has even cleaned his sensor with a tshirt, in a real pinch... :bat:

I regularly seem to leave the quick release plate at home... :(

A landscape photographer who will remain nameless told me that he climbed a extremely large Scottish mountain one evening complete with camping gear etc. to wake early and capture the sunrise only to realise at the very top that he'd left his quick release at home.. he did say he will definitely only do it once... :bonk:

I thought that was one of the ways to tell apart amateur and pro photogs - amateurs spend ages cleaning their lenses with special cloths etc and pros just use their tshirt!

recently LOST a memory card after a job!!! still dont know where it went, was safely in my suit jacket pocket, with the rest, got home.....SH.....T.

Fortunately it was a small job, slight untruth about the card being corrupt, staying up till 12.30am trying to recover it, and dreading making 'that' call. Can i pop back please....No problem, dont worry, whenever suits you!!

Good result, Lesson well and truly learnt and it could have been a whole world worse than it was.

memory cards in camera case, safely stored from now on, or even in the camera, in the case until you get home!

there are more where that came from! :) Every day is a school day eh?
